How absolutely perfect. I adore the way you get inside Char's mind; I imagine that he's very difficult to write, yet you did it perfectly. The entire dynamic of this scene changes with the different point of view, and yet it fits perfectly with the story as we know it. And the last line is worthy of the book, which has one of my favorite closing lines ever. Congratulations on a wonderful fic.

At the "...but friendshp can be forever also. Will you..." part, before Hattie snatches the mask? I always wondered if he was going to ask her to marry him, but...I don't know!
