Maybe, as Chang and Leona continue with their date, K9 gets orders from Ignitz to capture them, but he either fails miserably or gets a severe beating from Whip and Choi because they think he's a spy following Leona and Chang (although they still don't recognize him and he doesn't get enough time t recognize them). Things like this keep happening to him throughout the story.

Your original "illogical love match" is coming along really nicely. How will it end, Leona's actually being nice to Chang for once.

Thinking about 20 seconds after your question I imagined a May Lee/Yamazaki pairing...
Thinking more, you could at some point, turn Chang and Choi Into their original selves (secret strikers of KoF20). That would be the happiest ending for them.
After all, I never saw fics with smart Chang and cool Choi.
