| 9TailedFox 2008-05-30 ch 1, | abuseWow. This was awsome. It is so cool when a writer gets inside a charactors head on the deep stuff like this. It draws you closer to the charactor because you can relate to their mental stress. My take on it is that there is no desteny or fate but rather we are free to act independently on our own. I cover this same subject in my story and describe it this way. Destany does not exist, however the past choices of others has resulted in what now is, and it is our choice as to what we will do about the present that has been created by those before us. Everyone acts freely but everything has consequences so we have to decide whether we will do the right thing or not. It is hard to explian briefly but I think you will get it. just let me know if your interested in this idea more and I can explain it better in a letter. Anyway keep up the good work. 9TailedFox. |
| Yami Vizzini 2005-08-24 ch 1, | abuseGood point, through and through. I think the term refers to that they were destined to be chosen to face evil- the Japanese term, as you might know, is Chosen Children. |
| E'li Chaos 2004-08-18 ch 1, anon. | abuseMy take on the whole fate/destiny issue is that they are two seperate things/forces/whatever. Fate is the future that is predetermined. Destiny is the future that we make for ourselves. In other words, fate is binding, restrictive, and set-in-stone, while destiny is defined by choice. Of course, this bring up the question of whether the DigiDestined should, in fact, be called the DigiFated... Personally, I prefer the Japanese term 'Chosen Children', because you can choose someone for a task, but that will not guarantee that they will succeed. They were chosen, but that doesn't guarantee their success. Even prophecies can turn out wrong. Also, I agree that no couple is fated to be. The statement that Takari isn't a foregone conclusion kind of reminds me of the fanfiction 'To Hell With Destiny'. (Ironically enough, it's a Takari fic, but Daisuke IS portrayed in a positive light.) Specifically, a scene where Takeru states that he hates the idea of his relationship with Hikari being the result of some irresistable, all-powerful prophecy. Not to mention the fact that the fic states that things would have gone just as well if they had just remained friends. |
| Alex Warlorn 2004-05-20 ch 1, | abuseI've always believed that destiny was a blue print, a look down the path, a road map: but you still have to walk the path you've seen, you still need to build your own tower, and you still need to travel down that road with our without a map. You know what they say about tempting fate. |
| AnironUndomiel 2004-04-17 ch 1, | abuseAh yes, the age long debate of whether destiny can be changed by the will of the individual. I am always inclined to believe that destiny is immutable, and those who challenge their destiny are only following the pre-ordained. When we are born, we are all different, unique. Each of us is set upon a path of interactions with our surroundings that determine who we are and ordains the choices we make. There are two parts to destiny, the physical machine that is our being, and the countless interactions with our surroundings that create the thoughts and counciousness filling the machine of our bodies. We make no individual choices, we have no free-will. If I wake up in the morning, and decide to wear my T-shirt instead of my button-up shirt. It is not my free-will that made this choice, it is the past experiences that tell me the button-up shirt is uncomfortable. If anyone decides to challenge destiny, it is only their past experinces and the genetics of their body that decides this. From the beginning of time, when the universe was created, countless interactions and results from those interactions determined that today, i will sit in front of my computer and read this story, and that due to my past experiences and the understanding of which according to my brain being complex enough ordained that i will write this review. Perhaps this action will cause countless reactions, perhaps the world will change forever for this, i do not know, nor do i worry, for all that is going to happen, has alraedy happened... If anyone wishes to discuss further upon this point, you are more than welcome to email me at jamesniu74@hotmail.com, as you can tell, i am very, very bored... |
| moguera 2003-11-24 ch 1, | abuseDestiny does exist and the digidestined are meant to save the world and so on. However, destiny, in my opinion at least, can only carry one so far. In the case of the digidestined, what destiny did, and still does, is supply them with the means so that they could manufacture their own ends. In my very humble opinion, that is truth about destiny. |
| effect20 2003-06-28 ch 1, | abuse...Destiny? hmm... interesting... Destiny, a beautiful yet powerful word. Some think they are Destined to be with someone yet there is no garentee. Is there such a thing as Destiny or just a pre-determined future. This story has made me sink deep into thought like never before. But i have read so many of your fics, why did I over look this one untill now? maybe it was 'destiny' that said it wasn't time for me to read this fic. ...destiny?...hmm...maybe. |
| Daisukesgirl1 2003-05-03 ch 1, | abusejust going through all your stories and this has given me a new view in things.thanks |
| LadyDevimon 2002-08-14 ch 1, anon. | abusenothing is destined only choosen. i don't beleive the TK and KARI make a couple at all! I don't believe in destined romances. it seems to un-emotional. lots of luv, LadyD. |
| Hakaisha 2002-06-07 ch 1, | abuseI wonder why I haven't seen this before on your profile, Silver. Very deep, philosphical (sp) subject, a subject common in debate. The controversy is almost unbelievable. And I definately agree with you ---- we should be able to choose our own destinies. The character, Tai, was also well chosen. He's just like that type to silently muse over it himself, hashing the same question to himself over and over again, wondering until he was finally tired of it. It's kinda like 01 - they earn the power from their crests by reaching deep inside themselves to find the grestest trait of themselves, and control that trait. And Willis/Wallace (the blond with the twin Digimon in the Digimon Movie - gee, how come he's even more unnoticed than Michael? He was in TWO movies, while Michael was in ONE episode!! >=( ---you can probably tell I'm a Willis fan...^_^'') has the crest, and Digimental, of Destiny/Fate. Their crests are all something they can control...shouldn't that mean he, among others, but him most of all, can control his own destiny? Oops, I'm rambling again. The point was, this is definately a subject that I enjoyed reading about. Sorry the review came so late though...-_-'' ~Hauntress |
| AkuTaco 2002-06-02 ch 1, | abuseI think your right. But I believe that there is more than one destiny. I think you have to work to achieve one destiny, the destiny that doesn't have you end up sliced in to my a Machindramon, and then you can be more lazy and get another. Does that sound right? Either way, there is more than one destiny for me. I can either chicken out during a game of poker and lose all my money, that would be one destiny, or I could have the winning hand and get three hundred bucks in my pocket. I believe we can choose our own destiny with the decisions we make. You do have some choices... |
| Silver Warrior 2002-05-10 ch 1, | abuseDestiny is one of the most ambiguous things in all of creation. I believe that destiny means that you are destined to have the potential to fullfill that destiny, but it is up to you as to whether or not you are able to fullfill what has been called destiny. If you ever have a chance to, read Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. Particularly every book after the second book. It has some very interesting views on prophecy and destiny. To quote the main character, "Prophecy can only tell you that the sun will rise tomorrow. The rest is up to you." |
| Hopeful Writer 2002-01-06 ch 1, | abuseHm, destiny, huh? I guess destiny's the end result, but how you get there is your own choice. That sounds like the most reasonable explination. As for predestined romantic couples (even though you don't want to hear this as much as destiny), romance only happens when two people love each other, not because someone (or something) say that that's how it should be. It's like a father choosing a husband for his daughter back in the old days. It's not right and it's not fair to anyone. Maybe destiny is something that is unpredictable, but it is the end result of all the suffering anyway. And without the suffering, your destiny would be different. So that makes all the suffering worthwhile. |
| Nexus Prime 2001-12-29 ch 1, | abuseMmm...You are wise, my friend. Very wise. I admire you. |
| raine14 2001-12-13 ch 1, | abuseah, good subject here, silver. i think you chose the best character for this little fic. i sure think tai thinks the way you portrayed him in this. as for the predestined couple thing, eh... can't say i believe in it either but we all like the couples we like for whatever reason, even tho some people go a little overboard shouting their personal preferences but anyway, this was a really good idea and i'm glad that you shared!..... raine |
