This is a pretty good ficlet. My advice is that you keep it as a one-shot. There's nothing wrong with angsty, sad stories once in a while. Shakes things up a bit. It's a little different from the norm the way you have it now, and that's a good thing to strive for. But, if you have a good plot that will do the first chapter justice, then by all means, have at it. Good luck. (^.~)
