I loved the ending.
Loved the characterization of Bobby and the description of his home for that matter. Loved the kitten - kittens and cats of all ages.
But the pennies in the first paragraph bothered? haunted ? me. They seemed like a detail that should be significant but appear no where else in the story.
Oh well.

The Begining is a heart touching piece. It is not a surprise that Basts writing is good. This was Bast at her best again. It was a surprise that Bobby felt such a bond with a tiny nearly helpless creature. It is great how Bast in so few words showed the relationship to be mutually benificial. I like what the title implies: This was only the Beginning of the relationship between Bobby and the kitten. At first it appeared the title ment the new year.

This inspires a wonderful visual; in the process of rescuing a creature who is truly desperate, the character also rescues himself. Great message.
