 Allacaya 2006-08-03 . chapter 34 Hi,
I just wanted to finally drop a review. I'm so immensely glad I came across your stories. I'm completely hooked. I'll probably stay up all night to read the very last chapter. (So much for getting work done (:)
I just read your response to the Mary-Sue accusation. And that made me take the time to write the long overdue review.
I enjoy your storie I think it is well devised and well written. And I agree there are horrible stories out there - and yours is surely NOT one of them!
On the Mary-Sue business - I agree it is hard not to write one. I just want to mention that real life can be sometimes quite "Mary-Sueish" itself. Believe me some of the events that happen right under our nose are Hollywood-worthy. In fact so much in terms of drama and romance that if you saw them in a movie or read about them you'd immediately discard them for being unrealistic. But that doesn't change the fact they happened.
So, why am I rambling on about that? Because I think that you take great care to make this story realistic. You try hard to think up a plausible plot and write the characters. All good reasons, why this story is not to be counted among Mary-Sue-Stories.
In my opinion you can get caught up way too much in Mary-Sue paranoia and start overreacting.
Let's face it everyone, if you scrutinize hard enough - every story becomes Mary-Sue/Gary-Stuish. Because as I said real life has said moments.
To end this, let me summarize: great story, hilarious scenes again and again, good characterizations - keep it up you're doing a good job! |
