French Pony 11/11/04 . chapter 1I like the characterization of Cirdan here - he's the only Elf who ever shows his age, so it's appropriate that he should feel the weight of his years so acutely. He seems like the consummate old craftsman, patiently planing away until his time do come.
One thing, though: Cirdan, an old salt if ever there was one, constantly refers to ships as "it." Ships are never "it." Ships are always "she," unless they're Russian, in which case they are "he." But never "it." |
Fangelir 2/27/04 . chapter 1That was beautiful. . . Cirdan is so often overlooked in fanfiction, and you described his character so well. I really liked the ending, especially, "The star shown all the brighter this night and Cirdan perceived another old friend looking down upon him with fondness." :) |
Aislynn Crowdaughter 1/3/04 . chapter 1Very interesting, and quite beautifully written story about the passing on of the Ring of Fire to Gandalf. TI like the part wjere Cirdan warns Gandalf the ring should not go to Saruman. Great foresight here; and in the book Cirdan was the one who saw the potential of the last arrival of the Istari, the grey pilgrim, too. Thank you for this little story, it is great!
