Ah, a very meaty chapter. Things were going too smoothly to be true, I guess. Still, I think it was a great insight into the character. Everyone has darker impulses now and then, and only experience (and in large part shame, I think) teaches us to control them. I'm glad you had Harry show wisdom in recognising that. While this is rather extreme, if Tom had never become Voldemort, parents would probably not feel terrible despair that they've completely lost control of their children's path. It's also great that this moment sticks so firmly in Tom's mind that it keeps him from doing anything that would disappoint his parents.

I'd just like to say that you've got a wonderful story here. I love the compassionate and open-minded themes behind it (and I love how Harry always manages to echo my own thoughts so perfectly and eloquently), and I would love to read more. I hope you will find interest in returning to this story some time.

Poor Tom. I guess it was too much to expect McGonagall to be able to put the past behind her. But I guess it was too much of a sudden shock for her to adjust her attitude; hopefully after she has time to assimilate the revelations, she'd be able to act more warmly.

I love seeing the letters between Harry and Tom; for me, they feel like the highlight of each chapter since they give more insight into their relationship. Even though it is background to the story, it really is the core theme, in a way.

Neville's class was original and quite interesting to read. I was surprised to see him teach the course, but considering how things panned out in the series, you got the "professor" part right, and teaching DADA makes some sense.

However, I do think you should avoid using entire lines from the book. You've got an excellent concept and a good story; keep it fresh and original.

I like the relationship that's developed between Tom and Harry. I can feel the respect and love that Tom has for his dad, and it's very heart-warming to see. The letter Harry wrote was excellent, I felt -- it was warm, reassuring, and really feels like something a person would write to their own flesh-and-blood.

This will prove to be quite an interesting scenario. I like Tom already, and I hope he continues to prove that a warm family and a good role model were all it would have taken for Tom Riddle not to have strayed so far from the light.

I do think that the beginning of the chapter feels a bit too strongly reminiscent of the first book. Many of the flow of ideas feel the same, with just a difference in the words used to express the idea. You should feel free to let your characters act like themselves, and not try too hard to fit them into moulds created by other characters.

Man, that must have been a tense encounter. How on earth could Voldemort's wand have gotten back into circulation though? It would seem like a rather frightening wand to possess.

What an interesting premise! And I have to admire Harry and Ginny for their compassion, ability to forgive, and their willingness to look beyond a person's path to see their full potential.
