Wonderful story! I think if Harry had been allowed to heal in his mind from the abuse and learn it was alright to be smart he would have been a lot easier to convince about things. Apparently everyone thinks he is a an average student with these "gifts" but not really smart. The Dursleys beat smart out of him. At least the good grades part. Harry has no idea how to study and for all Hermione so called smarts she never notices or doesn't care. She also never notices that he is abused. She is so busy learning everything that she learns nothing. I would have expected her to do the research/homework on Wizarding Law that protects Children and on the Potter Family. If she had bothered a lot would have changed. If the people adults especially who are supposed to care about him had just talked to him they would have seen and heard some things. Why didn't Harry get the same information Hermione did in her school kit?? Because he wasn't Muggleborn in spite of knowing zip about their world nobody told him anything even Hermione. It makes me sick! No wonder he doesn't trust adults. They all let him down. No wonder he doesn't want to get Ron and Hermione involved. Neville was actually a better friend to him than those two and Luna as well.

Sorry for the rant. I am enjoying your story. That is why I am all worked up. I am involved in it.
