Very nice fic. It could have worked if you'd have extended and used chapters, but the shorter way is just as good.
Just one gripe really, you seem to let Americanisms creep into your work. For instance, Pippin says 'Ew, mommy!' whereas I think it would be more fitting for him to say 'Ew, mother!' or even just 'mother!' Little things like changing the word 'yell' to 'shout' can make the general tone seem much more hobbitish.
Also, it's 'Bye' not 'by', as far as I know.
But good work! The ending was very sad. I've written a Diamond/Pippin fic that has them as childhood friends too, but I don't think I'll ever put it up here. I like the way you've charcterised her. :)
