AlterEgoSadist 2009-08-05 . chapter 1"Slice of heaven" indeed...I abslutely loved this. It's very insightful, and you portrayed Kenshin's personality perfectly. The fact that this is food-centric is a very interesting idea, one rarely explored in the Kenshin fandom. I'm glad you took the time to do that, and you did a wonderful job, taking all the scenes from the manga/anime where Kenshin's taste was especially prominent/significant, however small they were, and adding them in here, along with your own introspective twist. I never knew "emotions" could qualify as a type of "taste", but now that you mentioned it, Kaoru's cooking would turn out like that if she were ever to cook, for she is a very emotional, open woman. Speaking of Kaoru's cooking, I wonder what Sanosuke and Yahiko, along with everyone else besides Kenshin who has tasted her food, would taste when THEY ate it? I mean, would they taste her emotions, as Kenshin did or something else, like the horrible mixture of ingredients put together? And if it is no trouble for you, could I perhaps make a little version of my own of this "taste" concept? I will put in a disclaimer if you wish. |
gaap237 2008-01-20 . chapter 1I always wondered why Kenshin never said anything about Kaoru's cooking and ate it easily. I like your version. |
Anonymous but very interested 2006-07-05 . chapter 1 So sweet and beautiful. This story is now one of my favorite pieces of fanfiction. It really is beautiful. I loved reading it...despite the sadness that was interwoven throughout the story, there was happiness, there was hope, there was love, and I really did enjoy reading "Taste". The ending, the beginning, the whole thing was written in such a lovely way.
I must reread that section of the manga. I do not remember that. But I will be sure to go back and read it.
Thank you for sharing this with us all.
Good luck!

enchantedsleeper 2005-02-17 . chapter 1Hey, what a good idea! I don't properly know the manga, so I didn't know about the sponge cake and all that... but now I do! XD
Sounds like Kenshin has seven senses - the seventh being the ability to taste emotions, which I suppose is like taste. Anyways, great job! ^-^ |
Lili 2005-02-08 . chapter 1 Oh my goodness! It's amazingly, beautifully, wonderfully, fantastic. It's definitely the best thing I have ever read. It's such a different, though successful, concept to portray emotions as taste. I almost burst out crying while reading it. Beautifully written, well done! |
Lucrecia LeVrai 2005-02-04 . chapter 1Nice idea - and very well written fic, mind you :) - but some bits just didn't make sense.
"Kenshin does make a few jabs at Kaoru’s cooking, but I’ll just say that he just made those jibes on the taste of her cooking based on what Sanosuke and Yahiko told him." - now, does Kenshin /ever/ judge people, when he can only rely on /other/ people's opinions!? No, I think not! Personally, I think he's able to taste Kaoru's meals, to see for himself how awful they are. He loves her, and he would never tease her without a good reason!
I think he got over with the 'everything-tastes-like-blood' issue before he started to live with Kaoru. Ten years as wandrerer... that's a lot of time.
His food tasted like Tomoe's parfume? I don't remember reading 'bout that... And besides, it's not a good thing, is it? Would you really like your steak and fries to taste like rose petals or something? :P
Okay, I'm being picky, I know, but these points seem quite ridiculous to me. :P Then again, as I already said, I liked your fic a lot; the flow's alomst perfect, and so is Kenshin's characterisation. I only wish you hadn't put these random 'de gozarus' into your story. 'Sessha' is okay, I guess, but why do you constantly switch between this word and a regural, English 'I'? |
