I'm really interested to see what all went on 'back home' during the quest of the Ring... I sometimes have trouble with extensive geneology (just like when I'm reading JRR himself!), but I really enjoy the very 'human' moments here (very 'hobbitish' moments? :)) - my personal favorite was "while they had solved the problems of Buckland and the Four Farthings from the safety of their chairs by the fire"... a very natural moment, very telling of their characters.
