Wow...you handle ficlets just as magnificently as you do your extended epic tales. :) I've been similarly absent from Buffy fanfic ever since the finale...it's felt too much like walking over a loved one's grave. But what better way to get back in the groove, then to pop over to and discover a new Buffy fic from Sangga, my all-time favorite Buffy author? :D This is a beautiful, if rather melancholy, character piece. You've perfectly captured the flavor of Spike's personality, and I love the poignancy of his realization that his 200 years of existence have been relatively useless, in the grand scheme of things. I'm not sure I agree...I think he's selling himself a bit short, but that's certainly not a case of poor writing or poor characterization on your part! I really believe that Spike would see things in the way you described...he would just be wrong about it. ;) Another stellar piece from you.
