I'm sorry I didn't find it before (it's Julie_Rox from the forum, btw) I love what you've done with this, both with the title, and the way Maria is reminiscing about her parents as she dances. This combined with her newfound love for the Captain makes the Laendler something very central and important in her life. Thanks for sharing!

I like what you've put about Maria's father - it's a nice little story. I especially like the repetition of 'What a lovely couple you make', but I would have made its effect on Maria different. I get the impression that Elsa would be saying it spitefully, as she loves the Captain herself. Surely Maria would have detected this and felt uncomfortable by it.

But one thing that really hit me hard was that the reason why Maria is so upset about being in love with Captain Von Trapp is because she is a Nun, and Nuns aren't supposed to be in love. If she hadn't danced with Captain Von Trapp and fallen in love, Brigitta wouldn't have pointed it out to her, and Maria wouldn't have become so scared as to run back to the Convent without saying goodbye. Maria later expresses to Mother Abbess her concerns to keep the vows of "poverty, obedience and - chastity". She confides that "I was there on God's errand. To have asked for the Captain's love would have been wrong."

I don't intend to flame, but a lot of this plot-wise didn't sit right with me, although I respect that the actual writing is in itself very good.

That was nice, indeed. I loved the way you gave us a hint of Maria's mom and dad. It seems like such a nice memory to remember. *tear* I wish I could cry now, that was nice. Keep up the good work, your gonna make kleenex sales go up, lolz.

ok, so i haven't read this story, but i bet it's super-good. i remember when there were only 4 stories in this section. memories, memories. one of my stories is called my favorite things, or something like that.

ha! i finally read it. i must say its an awesome story.

You know, as far as I'm concerned this dance scene is the single most romantic moment in all of film. Not a word is spoken during the critical moments, there are no cues aside from body language and facial expression- and even that is fairly circumspect, given that neither knew what the other was thinking- and yet, BAM! You get it! I enjoyed reading this and imagining Maria and her father dancing. Nicely done!

That's a really cute little story. However I wondered what might have happened with Maria's parents - cause in "Something Good" she sings "Perhaps I had a wicked childhood, perhaps I had a miserable youth, etc."... *Sigh*
