This is a really cool story. I'm surprised that there are not more fics like this - spectral 'what-if's. Even if there were, they would probably be overshadowed by your own take on what could have been. I really like how you show each of the major events in Ed's and Roy's lives and how they would have been effected by Ed deciding not to transmutate his mother with Al. Each scene feels eerily true. Your writing style is also makes this fic a joy to read - it feels clean cut and interesting.

Wow, I can't believe more people haven't reviewed this yet! It's got all the elements of a stunning short story: action, drama, comedy, romance... It's a wonderful AU that takes snapshots of familiar characters that have become changed in your world, and shows just how they've stayed the same. I laughed like crazy at the part about Ed coming back from the brink of death just to protest being called 'short', and Al rushing in to calm him after having been in a three-day coma. I've re-read countless times the scene where Ed bursts into the battle and effectively ends - where it says his eyes 'burned'. Roy mooning over Ed without even knowing, or letting himself know, is also something I parsed through the story for on my re-read, and I loved catching hints. Plus, the Elric brothers still remain so devoted and protective to each other, which was something I read and re-read again and again... I love all your characterizations, mentioned in only a few words that skilfully create three-dimensions. I hope you continue to write, since you appear to be able to do all genres justice. While the saying goes, "There's always room for improvement," in the case of [The Path Not Taken], that room is infintisemally small.

This was great. I loved especially how Edward himself was mysterious and intriguing to Roy in the beginning, because he didn't really know anything about him. I think it'd be interesting to see more in this universe, but I also understand that stopping where you did is good ^^; Anyway, great job.

Cool!! I liked it very much! It was well written, the story was very interesting and, well, everything was really cool! In the end, Ed still had to wear his automail ^^U poor guy. but at least Al has his body, right? Now he is going to work for the military! Fullmetal! he is back! hoho.
