All I can figure is that the part about the three eye Hiei dieing was an obvious lie, but perhaps a test of love for Kurama.
What happened? becomes TOO GOOD A QUESTION, because obviously somehow BOTH Hieis have been preservered in some more preferable fashion AS-ONE. An alternate personality or EXPANDED-pesonality at a higher-energy level now at Hiei's command could make an VERY interesting story as Kurama rediscovers his changed partner.

Aww, that was really sweet. And part funny! I wonder what would happen if someone actually rolled ontop of Hiei? I wonder what would happen to Kuwabara if he did. (snickering) Anway, great job, this was a really good story and the story about Hiei's past life was cool!
