Rosemarie-ouhisama 2004-04-01 . chapter 1Hooray! The author formerly known as "Christine Bubbles" is back in the MR catagory(ooh, now I'll have to correct that in my own bio)! You've already written several of my favorite stories--River of No Return, The Peacock and the Swan, Stealing Time, etc etc. I'm adding this story to my list of favorites. You've pegged both characters perfectly, and Christian's insights (//Satine...had left him with so much more. It was a lust for life that could not be quenched or dampened. He did not want to extinguish it--it would have been a travesty to her memory had he done that.//) are stunning. IT's a fresh take on Satine's legacy, and it makes me think about the characters in ways I hadn't considered before, which is always a treat. We need all the good writing we can get in this catagory and you are one of the best here. It's been worth the wait.
And yes, I know there will be people who dislike the slashy elements; I tend to favor f/f myself, but the combination is just right here. Nothing is overdone--the angst, the sexiness, the grief are all depicted in a carefully-maintained balance. Quite amazing work. I hope we'll see more soon (perhaps a new chapter of Stealing Time? I finally got around to reading chapter five, and it's rare to see someone treating Satine's illness in a realistic manner, such as the fact that they cannot kiss or the sunlight hurting her eyes. Great stuff.) |
