Oreth Adablaer 2006-03-18 . chapter 1Wow, this was amazingly well-written. You've captured Lulu and Auron in a way that I've never seen before. Very well done, and not too overdone in the romance sense. Characterization is perfect, and I also loved the interaction between Lulu and Wakka.
A very nice one-shot, and one of the better Lulu-centric stories I've read. |
AuronLu 2006-03-08 . chapter 1Congratulations. I am collecting a list of the best Aulu fanfic on the web for my website, and so far yours is the best I've read. I'm rating it accordingly. :) That sounds cheesy, but anyway, thank you very much for an enjoyable read. I especially love "Platitudes are also off-limits," and her steady stream of comebacks.
always asks us for constructive criticism, but I'm just going to enjoy it, okay? The ending, also, is exactly right. Lulu is strong enough to face loss. She's danged well going to get some joy out of it first. |
filigod 2006-02-22 . chapter 1Dang. I'm coming late to the F-X bandwagon, but of the few AuLus I've found out there so far, this one feels pretty much like I imagined. They have the same strength, the same aloof dedication. They both try to put the past behind them and not wallow in grief. And yet both are touched by death in ways the others cannot comprehend.
It's a tragedy in the making more layered and nuanced than Yuna's and Tidus'. You hit it with the deftness of a scalpel. Thank you.
Now I need to get back to writing mine. Which, alas, doesn't belong on because I'd like to give them a few chances to play at living, before Lu has to prove once again that she's strong enough to say goodbye.
*salutes another aficionado* |
rosimation 2005-01-28 . chapter 1*whistle* that was freakin amazing...honestly, i think that u have written Lulu and Auron's characters the best so far. Some people write them too cold or too caring...u wrote them perfectly. The limits of their feelings at the right places...p-e-r-f-e-c-t. excellent job on that one. please write more fics on them. |
arcane_wolf 2004-11-09 . chapter 1 Amazing. Just...amazing. This fic...it explored the reasons for lulu's sorrow, and exploited them to perfection. It brings out the reason for an A/L so fluidly, that it makes me want to cry. I particularly enjoyed the last exchange between both of them:
"She found him sitting on the airship¡¦s nose; chill midnight winds whipped her loosed hair into a wild tangle on either side of her face and brought goosebumps almost painfully to attention. ¡§I know your story,¡¨ she called out to him. ¡§I understand.¡¨
He twisted his head around to look at her. ¡§Do you?¡¨
¡§I¡Kam sick of your question-replies. They are cheating and illegal in any further conversation, understand?¡¨
¡§Should I?¡¨ he said, and laughed.
Frustrated, she whispered heatedly, ¡§Sir Auron¡Kyou are dead.¡¨ Her hands clutched in his robe, pulling him around to face her fully, the wind streaming her hair forward in a curtain that secluded them, providing an intimate intensity. ¡§You should have told me,¡¨ she said angrily. ¡§You should not have dared to be dead¡X¡¨ No, that was ridiculous; she groped around for a different phrasing and settled for repeating, ¡§You should have told me.¡¨
¡§Would it have made any difference?¡¨
¡§No questions,¡¨ she said. ¡§Answers.¡¨
¡§It didn¡¦t endanger Yuna,¡¨ he pointed out, as if that could be the only reason why she was furious.
¡§I¡K¡¨ she paused to steady her emotions; filling her lungs to the brim with air, she breathed his exhalation. ¡§The dead should not have breath; they should not have a taste,¡¨ she said, voice cool and cutting as she could manage.
¡§I didn¡¦t make the rules,¡¨ he hissed, eyes fixed on some point in her hair.
¡§Damn it,¡¨ she said. ¡§This¡Kis not fair.¡¨
¡§Nothing ever is.¡¨
¡§Platitudes are also off-limits,¡¨ she informed him.
¡§Then I am sorry.¡¨ "
I liked the atmosphere; the FEEL of it, somehow. It seemed right, and sad. You can see it in your mind, the cold, rushing night, the hum of the airship, auron's laughter. There is a tone of finality when he says sorry. Pity that there are so few good authors, and even less good fics of this pairing. Fortunately, you fulfil both. Keep up the amazing work! (p.s, sorry for babbling for so long...) |
 wraith3000 2004-05-23 . chapter 1 I love this story!

^__^ 2004-04-09 . chapter 1 Wow. I love Auron/Lulu fics, especially those vingettes. I like to see them together, but angst has to come in since he's well...dead and all. This fic fullfilled my requirements and more. Beautifully done.

The Jack of Spades 2004-04-06 . chapter 1Wow.
Uh, yes, words. I'm so touched right now I need to find everything I wanted to say again...
I'll start with a very heartfelt thank you :) Normally with stories like these, I'm so blown away that my reviews end up being these curt little blurbs of crap, rather than accurately praising the story for everything it did to me.
But, I will try.
The first and foremost thing I loved about this was the half-romantic half-nonromantic aspect. Having steeped myself in A/L stuff for nearly a year, I think that leaves a person with an urge to see something a bit deeper than just an attraction, and that's what this is. If you ever doubt yourself on writing these two in the future, I'm going to demand that you reread your own work :P This touches on all the similarities they have, and it's deep, subtle, working on many levels. I could feel that with each sentence I read.
And... Whenever most authors want their characters to match the ones in the game exactly, they'd have to take dialogue directly from the game. Not you. You have some kind of view into their heads that most people would kill for, so that your dialogue for them sounds exactly like stuff they could/should have said in the game.
You are clearly a mistress of subtlety. I feel there are quite a few things I could learn from you ;) I want more like this. More anything like this, on any subject, simply so I have nearly a half an hour to sit around to read (and think!) at the same time. |
 Ms. Imperfection 2004-04-05 . chapter 1Gorgeous! Just...gorgeous. I'm not sure whether to squee in rabid fangirlism over your writing or to sniffle sadly becasue, well, there was just no happy, fluffy way that this could have possibly ended. The lulu introspection was so beautiful and sad and...and! Gar. I hate it when I can't find words to express my enjoyment of something -_-;
I know I'm weird, but one of my favorite parts was a tiny, insignificant thing:
'The boy was…decent in a fight thanks to natural athleticism, but would need practice before she felt comfortable climbing Gagazet with him at her back. He fought with a great deal of blind ability—obviously, he knew that he had to get the bad guy with the sharp end of the sword, and so he darted in and out, wielding his blade with a efficient, systematic sort of flailing that didn’t allow a fiend a second worth of breathing room.
But he had no technique; even Lulu, who was no warrior of any brand, could see that.'
I can remember greatly appreciating how Square addressed Tidus' inexperience with a sword at the beginning of the game--something they'd never done before as hero's such as Cloud and Squall and even Zidane, eventually, brandish gigantic weapons and never seem at all weighted down. When Auron hands Tidus a sword and he promptly falls over, I giggled with joy. And not just because it was so damn cute, either. I was pleased to see you mention Tidus' 'blind ability' in the fic.
I also really liked this:
'It was nothing more than the fact that Rikku broke the monotony of the same old six faces and minds, and did it attractively and charmingly to boot, but she was amazed that he had not recognized the Al Bhed green spiral of her eyes. He must’ve looked into them a dozen or more times on the road.'
because...well...Wakka/Rikku! XD Hinting! Hinting! YAY! It's the little things that I so love.
I love how you went about the Auron/Lulu-relationship factor. It never felt overly romantic, while at the same time being full of delicious tension, which I really liked. It was realistic; how I would have imagined things would been between them if it had happened in-game. Auron/Lulu isn't one of my favorite pairings, but this was still glorious. If this were a giftfic for me, i'd be a puddle of happy goo right about now. ^_~ |
