The Painted Lady 2008-11-05 . chapter 1Ha! Dilithium crystals and duct tape get them to Valinor. This is so deranged and nutz that I love it! |
T'Kath 2008-06-22 . chapter 2Oh - please continue.. *lol* can´t wait to read more of Gimli and those two ingenious elves.
"The swiftest reembodiment in Elven history" that really sent me down laughing.
Great stuff and good reading - thanks for it,
T'kath |
Beth 2008-02-14 . chapter 2 This is stinkin' hilarious! |
PEF 2006-10-01 . chapter 1Di-lithûm. That alone nearly had my falling off my chair laughing. :D Brilliant stuff. |
HRT 2006-09-25 . chapter 2I thought this was one of the more thoughtful and well-crafted pieces I've come across in some time. Many authors shy away from tackling either Valinor or the old age of any of the Fellowship, and this was a pleasure to read. |
stolen child 2006-08-24 . chapter 2 The funniest thing I have read in a long long while, Thankyou from the bottom of my heart! I know no one seems to have left a review recently, so I just thought I'd say that everything about this story rings true, the characterisations are simply brilliant and any subtle (or not so subtle) humour you choose to put in works fantastically. Highlights have to include Gimli's Star Trek impression and his companion's woeful boatbuilding skills.
Orvelos and Wilburae - the creations of a genius. In addition to their famous flying counterparts, these two obsessive elves also bring to mind the story of the mice, Orville and Wilbur, who built a flying basket. No idea if you've ever heard of this children's book or not, it was a favourite when I was little.
Please keep writing, can't wait to see what happens next! |
Morfiwen 2005-11-24 . chapter 2"And all that business about reflecting upon your life--it’s not like I ever got up to much. About all I had to talk about was the boat.”"
Oh, my. This is truly delicious! Keep up the good work! I'm loving this unique and original story! ^_^ |
Christine Fraser 2005-10-31 . chapter 2 I love your stories. This one in particular made me laugh. The whole gag around Wilbrae and Orvelos not "being popular" is so good. And then Legolas happy to get out of the house once in a while.
Very very good and I look forward to more. |
Goddess of Idun 2005-10-27 . chapter 2'twas very funny, especially when wilburaë was blown to mandos. |
jilian baade 2005-04-28 . chapter 2 Ok, so the Dwarves had Dilithium. That is so funny! As is Legolas playing Maeglin for the benefit of his kids, and Gimli's remark about the Valar being arse deep in Elves.
Will the 3 inventors ever get their sail-less boat going? |
Artemis1000 2005-04-04 . chapter 2This so so funny and sweet, I love it!
The part with the kids hanging from Gimli's bard was just hilarious! |
JunoMagic 2004-10-26 . chapter 2"I wasn’t popular there, either!" - oh my, I laughed out loud. This is such a funny, original story! You don't really mean to leave it these two chapters, do you?
I would really like to read more. It's so rare to find a Gimli/Legolas story that is not strange or completely silly, but charming, witty and full of real humour. |
Lamiel 2004-08-06 . chapter 2Orville and Wilbur... dilithium... ha! Oh, laughed and laughed. At first I thought the best line was in part one, "I cut away the parts that were not the ship and fastened the rest together." But Wilburae's "swiftest re-embodiment in Elven history" just slayed me. So funny! Very well done. |
Pete Zaitcev 2004-05-19 . chapter 2The grafting of the technology is a rich source of humour and action, as was shown to a great effect by none other than Mark Twain in his "Connecticut Yankee at King Arthur's Court". The price to the plot is stiff, however, because once the progress is started by geeks with burning eyes, it cannot be stopped with a small hurt.
So, the author essentially has few choices: to terminate the exponential development with a suitably huge catastrophy (Twain), cap the technology with or without suitable explanation, perhaps by branding it "evil" (Tolkien), or let the progress to run unchecked.
After the chapter 2 I am curious what path Isabeau is going to take. She violated too much of the original souce to fold the tent now, so it would be pretty weak to retreat to the catastrophy path and play out Numenor in Valinor. If she isn't killing off the geeks, simply jailing them isn't going to do any good. I do not see an easy excuse to cap the development without violence. And letting it run will destroy the whole Valinor civilization such as it is. Curious, indeed... |
detritus 2004-05-14 . chapter 2 I'm laughing so hard I'm crying. This is hilarious! Thank you! |
