Fairy 6/29/04 . chapter 1 Maybe Gryffindor didn't like his name, so he rebelled in a Sirius-like way and decided to like lions. I think you're thinking too much. I hate my name, after all, and would never bestow its symbols on something made to last the ages, so I rebel, and call myself different stuff. Godric just didn't care about the background of his name enough to put aside his own preferences. Nice story, though. |
Jillie Rose 2/10/04 . chapter 1Oh! Cool! But the reason it's Gryffindor is cos it means in French, literally, golden griffin. D'or - of gold, y'see. But anyhoo...maybe it's a biblical reference as well...
The lion and the lamb shall lie down together, and the little child shall lead them
Maybe a symbol of the contradictions within us?
Just a suggestion. |
 SugarIcing 1/27/04 . chapter 1Awesomeness.

 HecateDeMort 1/7/04 . chapter 1please continue |
Simply Myself 4/5/03 . chapter 1I've been thinking about that kind of stuff for a while, not St. Godric, etc., but that JKR might be teasing us, in a way, about good and evil.
In the first book, Hagrid said that there wasn't a witch or wizard who went bad who wasn't in Slytherin, but in the third book he admits that he knew that Sirius Black had betrayed the Potters, and Sirius was a Gryffie, or, if he wasn't, it means that James was friends with a Slyth. The fact that Peter really betrayed them doesn't really have anything to do with it - Hagrid still contradicted himself and a Gryffie still turned.
Also, the Weasleys claim to be open-minded and unprejudiced, but Ron says that his mother has a cousin who's an accountant, whom they never talk about. An obvious connection is that the Dursleys never talked about the Potters because they were ashamed of being related to "those kinds of people", so obviously, the "open-minded" Weasleys *are* prejudiced, just like everyone else.
Another point is about Harry's trustworthiness as a narrator. I've been thinking about this because my English Class is reading "The Great Gatsby" and one of the key themes is about Nick Carroway's trustworthiness as a narrator. First of all, Harry doesn't get an objective view of the Slytherins from right off, and if he had, he probably would have ended up a Slyth. Second, as many Draco Malfoy's Point of View type fics show, the actions of the Slytherins can be interpreted many different ways. Other things: Harry gives the impression that Draco bought his way onto the team, but what if Lucius bought the brooms *after* Draco made the team? We also hear that Hermione beat Draco in every class grade-wise. Some people interpret this as "Draco is stupid" others interpret it as "Draco's second in the class". Harry also never comments on Draco's prowess as a seeker except competing against himself. And finally, Harry insulted Draco first, and considering the probability of the extent of Malfoy Pride, that would be unforgivable and would make Draco Harry's enemy forever.
I think that JK is going to address some of these points in later books. As some playwrite said, (more or less) "There cannot be a fly on the wall of the room without a reason," which means that if we are thinking about these themes and have evidence to support our theories, it makes sense that they will be addressed with a neat little plot twist.
Hope this makes you think like your points made me,
angel
P.S. Congradulations on being one of the only authors I've ever seen who has made Lucius not the bad guy. |

angelkas 8/19/02 . chapter 1That is scary, there must be a reason, something she hopes no one will catch on to. Or, maybe there is no reason at all. But, I doubt it was a mistake. She does put a lot of research into those books. There is a reason, just, well, maybe there isn't. Oh now I'm confusing myself. Or am I? I better get off b4 the strange side of me gets out. Do I have one, do we, as human beings have two sides? Are they just cooperating, as long as we're good. Can we convince our two sides to join forces. Does the one everyone sees, knows about, take over if we become truly evil? Does the other side disappear? What happens to the side that is a secret? Can our sides ever join forces? If they can, is that that decides whether we choose to be good or evil? Okay now I'm freakin myself out. If you ever see this e-mail me, will ya? . I want to know more on your whole theory. I should go now. |
Ms. Mayday Mayhem 9/1/01 . chapter 1Wow! That is so cool! I would've never thought of that! |
Flippant Wisdom 8/26/01 . chapter 1Intresting is my only word for it. Hmmm, makes for a good story idea though... |
iLUVdraco 7/8/01 . chapter 1Wow...How much free time DO u have? The story was really good, and it will obviously go on my favorites list, but who but u would have thought of that? That isn't an insult either, that's a compliment!Good job! |
PepperjackCandy 7/6/01 . chapter 1Interesting. I'm supposed to be in bed, but instead I'm trying to figure out what the unicorn/stag and lion are supposed to represent. Though I was able to find out that Godric was an Irish saint, so I'm looking for Celtic symbolism, too. Of course, one could always take the pov that the lion and unicorn/stag are *supporting* the royal arms, and therefore are cooperating with each other. Let's see. Do links come through on the reviews? Here's some info on the white hart" of Arthurian legend. http:/www.mystical-www.co.uk/arthuriana2z/w.htm#WH Sounds like Prongs to me! 8-) |
 uhhhh 7/5/01 . chapter 1 u'r nuts |
Luinthoron 7/3/01 . chapter 1Strange but good. I would say the symbol of the house is a lion because it was the symbol of the Gryffindors, not the symbol of Godric. It was not his choice to make his houses symbol a lion. So deer or lion, Gryffindor is still good. |
 noX4 6/21/01 . chapter 1_ LOL Nice fic. |
