Oh, this was wonderful. Neji is so deliciously messed up--a poster child for post-traumatic stress disorder and slightly deranged to boot. War will do that. I also enjoyed Hinata's backbone here. Too often, authors make her too meek and timid to function, and that jangles my nerves. You blended her quite perfectly: her natural timidity and her obstinate determination.

I especially loved the descriptions of Hiashi's death; they were both gruesome and beautiful.

Wow, this is so powerful and disturbing at the same time. It's interesting how you keep on weaving in the bits with the war (the flashback, Neji's dreams), as if something important happened there, but you don't straight out say what it is. (This makes me think that Neji's suffering from some sort of trauma induced by the war, and his really disturbing behavior towards Hinata is driven mainly by that? And this is the reason why he keeps on having these contradictory feelings towards Hinata, as in this line: "he tries to tell himself that the pressure welling up in him is hatred, not pride")

I suppose that Neji's feeling trapped by the Hyuuga, and he's trying to fight against that feeling by taking it out on her. I can't quite figure out whether he's feeling trapped because Hiashi saved him in the flashback, so he's had to live, or if the feeling was from before, which is why he was so desperate to find freedom in death. (And in that case, what had happened to make him feel so trapped).

Sorry if I'm being incoherent. What I am mostly trying to say is that I find the way you're slowly doling out hints at a rich backstory really compelling. I do hope that you continue this.

very inventive, dark and...moody. its dark more than anything and i hate what's going on with both characters. things must have happened to both neji for him to be so bitter again and with hinata for her confidence to be lost. i'm guessing the backstory ties in with naruto.
