I think you really hit it hard when you said Seto was turning into Gozaburo--I had one of those 'mental connection' things and that's what happened to Seto in the past--he was taken over by his father's evil. If Seto can break through to himself again, he'd be capable of love again. Also one of the reasons I think Isis calls Seto by his first name is because she is reaching the real him, and not Kaiba.
