abuseNobody can change Rule One.

A harsh story for a harsh world. It's easier to forget the enemy's humanity.

abuseThis is very well done! I like the two rules of war, and I like Tonks's comment about the sidelines. Keep up the good work!

abuse"And one person loved her still."

Oh, my. Your fic leaves me speechless... So serious, so sad. The conversations - the descriptions of people's silent actions are what get me. Ginny saying "Her neck broke" after the longest time with her eyes closed; Ron blurting out "I'm sorry about your mum" ; Malfoy losing it then, nd the description of the "foul curses", the visual impact of "up and down the train". The nail-bitinng. This story is so rich, satisfying, fulfilling. Great pacing, great paragraphing, great word choice and emphasis right down to the three italicized letters in "prefect".
Amazing.

abuseI got to read it, finally. ;.; it's so sad and good...
Really, I love angsty works about war. You see, that's the problem with the Lord of the Rings. Their war is so...black and white. I mean, in Harry Potter it IS also good-against-evil, but it's also just people-against-people. So it inflicts much more psychological depth.
Great job!

abuseAurgh. Fanfiction.net is currently encountering heavy traffic. Which means no chapter 3 for Usashi. T.T
And I promised myself I wouldn't read any multi-chapter fics 'cause I gotta go to sleep. Oh well. I'll be back for chapter three.

Comments: *Tears* Oh, my God, that was so sad and beautiful. Anyone who read that would have to reconsider the whole Death Penalty thing. Yes, Narcissa deserved what she got but she was still human, and when we're glad that she's gone we've lost our humanity. You've taken us down to the root of the matter and explained it beautifully.

abuseWow, this story left me nearly speachless.

You've written wonderful how Harry, Hermione and Ron realize what war really means, and that after all the enemy is human, too.

Poor Tonks. It must be hard to cause a family members death, even if it happend in self-defense.

abuseThat was marvellous, it was realistic and yet rather ironic at the same time because people were going to keep dying no matter what.

I loved Ron in this, in fact I loved them all. Superb story

abuseThat was amazing...Very tear-jerking, I'm glad you ended with Ron, because the relationship with his mother is something he shouldn't take for granted. Great job! ;)

ch 3, anon.
abuseMo,
I love how you can change gears from a story as fun and lighthearted as "The Dare" to this--and do both with a sensitivity that makes them both neither too sticky sweet nor too dismal and dark. I can really see the trio growing from this experience; it's terrible, yes, but the story focuses on what they learn from it and therefore has an...uplifting component, I guess. I can see Ron being the one to do this. Although he's never been in a situation like that in canon, he has such a tendency to open his mouth before he thinks that his reaction to Malfoy seems to slide right into place. And Draco's reaction was right on as well--teenaged boys are not easy to understand and write, but this seems like the perfect response for a kid in his state of grief and anger when confronted with compassion that he doesn't know how to handle. I'm impressed. Keep writing--I can't wait to see what you come up with next!
