Katharine Faith 2006-08-15 . chapter 1Okay, this is super-late in coming, but I JUST read this for the first time.
It. Is. Gorgeous!
I love the way you've used Maedhros' personality here; he's a character not often used in fanfiction, and it was a refreshing perspective! He's wrenchingly morose, and that touch of lingering, despairing Silmaril-lust is simply heartbreaking.
And, of course, you know of my deep and abiding love for all things Tanglinna. The mere thought of that poor child, weeping over his shattered home and slain kin, with his first kill weighing on his young shoulders... ai, Valar have mercy, Tree! My heart just aches for him!
What *is* it with us and our need to torture our favorites? :P (I know, like I'm one to talk, right?)
Truly, this is a beautiful tale, and one that needed to be told. Bless you for sharing it! |
Elf of Sirannon 2004-07-27 . chapter 1Hail O Great Treehugger,
It has been far too long between reviews for me. I've decided I am going to read all your works beginning to end in chronological order. I am really glad I did, after reading this one. I read Knife's Edge a while ago and it shed a lot of light on Tanglinna and how he came to be associated with the house of Oropher; poor Tanglinna, I've rarely loved a fictional Elf more than I love him.
I do hope somewhere in these tales I shall find the occasion of Tanglinna and Oropher sharing some pipeweed? And then Thranduil's pipeweed escapade, dancing in the glade with the captive goblin? lol - since those images were put in my mind during In The Hall Of The Wood Elf King, I have longed to read about these. If you haven't done so yet, you should - pretty please! :) |
Blume 2004-06-13 . chapter 1*gasp!* that was Tanglina?! OMG! Poor traumatized elfling?! Why must EVERYTHING happen to HIM?!
...that was fantastic though! =D (he killed a son of Feanor! no many can say that... ¬__¬) |
Mayhem21 2004-06-08 . chapter 1Wow! That is an amazing story! I always like finding new ways to look at somthing Tolkien wrote besides the way is was originally presented. To have the grief on both sides of the battle so presented really makes you think. Poor Tanglinna...you really feel sorry for him after this one. I just loved it! |
Unsung Heroine 2004-05-31 . chapter 1 Oh, I loved that. This was truly beautifully done! |
the evil witch queen 2004-05-30 . chapter 1aw, that's so sad. such loss over a so small a thing, could feanor's sons really justify what they did by the silmarils?
poor tanglinna, like the rest of them, turned into a kinslayer. i can't help feeling a little sorry for maedhros as well. cursed for life.
well, very good! keep up the good work! |
Ceana 2004-05-25 . chapter 1Thank you so much for this wonderful Birthday fic. You've captured my Elf perfectly and Oh the sweet young Tanglinna breaks my heart. I'm still so glad you've changed your mind about Maedhros. Hehehe. You've written an excellent example of how things aren't always black and white. Some things are grey...like a pair of certain eyes for example? But I digress.
Wonderful, moving, and perfect. Thanks Tree...you are the best!
This has been the best birthday! |
Lady Elleth 2004-05-25 . chapter 1Oh my God.
This leaves me utterly speechless, I really don't know what to say except that I am shivering all over and will start crying any moment.
Horrifying and beautiful. |
Dis Thrainsdotter 2004-05-25 . chapter 1A sad story about the aftermath of battle. You make both Maedros and Tanglinna believable, as each of them tries to come to grips with the grief. I wonder if they met at a later date? |
beledien 2004-05-24 . chapter 1 It's a very good portrait of such a contradictory character as Maedhros is.
excellent job. |
Lutris 2004-05-23 . chapter 1Wow Tree! This story is so sad but so well written. I loved how you described all the scene, Maehdros despair, the horror that took place... and when I reached to the part of the youngling I thought: could it be him? and it was! I really liked this unexpected meeting, as well as more info about your archer that everyone loves -including me, of course!- you are very talented, both to write about homourous situations as well as angsty pieces like this one. Excellent job! |
Elfique 2004-05-23 . chapter 1aw. very sad stuff. maedhros is so wonderful (as are all the other 6) and their tale is so sad. you did him justice *claps* |
Nilmandra 2004-05-23 . chapter 1I like the compassion you have added to Maedhros, and one cannot help but wonder if little Tanglinna softened his heart that he went to look for Elwing's brothers after this. He knows there has been too much killing, and yet he kills. It is a tragic and unbroken circle in which they run. |
kingmaker 2004-05-23 . chapter 1Wow. What a brilliant characterization of a difficult and complex character. I don't know what else to say besides the fact that I'm very impressed; this is not fanfic as much as art. |
 Anguirel 2004-05-23 . chapter 1*sniff*
One of my favorite Feanorians and OC. Poor poor Russandol. A tormented soul, wanting to be everything his father expected knowing it wrong. You portrayed him very well, and I loved the added Tanglinna. I believe it was Dior that killed Caranthir though. Don't take my word for it I'm probably wrong, I think I remember reading it in Sil or something. =P
Anyway, the piece was wonderful. I love Feanorian fics and it makes me very very happy to see you writing one. Well done once again! A moving piece, so wonderful ;__; |
