This is a really great story Chantal -- thought provoking, to say the least. Your tie in to D-Day was a great idea, and the otherthing I really liked wasthat you were able to draw a parallell between the Mexican War/siege and Vietnam, (still very much going on in 1970)without hitting the readerover the head with it. The whole story -- Daniel running into the "enemy" remonds me of Shakespeare's Henry the Fifth -- when Henry makes his speech about how if both sides are fighting for what they think is right, how does God know which side to lean for?

I am so glad you wrote this story and shared it with us. I think it's a very true depection of what happened in a bitter time of history and its one that is quite sobering all because it is true.
And I love the way Carolyn and Daniel talk to one another, like old friends with a hint of more. And how he trusts her so much to tell her his most intimate thoughts. It's lovely.
