A beautiful piece of writing that I feel truly grasps the soul of Shinji at this point in the series; or at least, one interpretation of it. I always thought of him as borderline neurotic by this point, chanting constantly his little mantra “I mustn’t run away” while clenching and unclenching his fist. This was an excellent interpretation of a Shinji with some hope left in him, though, and I was most glad to read it.
