Vespera 2008-01-07 . chapter 46Very nice story. I'm captivated by your version of Revan; one who, despite emerging from the events of KOTOR on the light side, still struggles with the pull of the dark side. This story gave us very creative insights into Revan's character, showing through emerging memories what kind of person she was before her fall and after. She was a brash, arrogant, impatient young woman, who became a brash, arrogant, impatient Jedi. The thread of her frustration and stubbornness was beautifully woven throughout this story, characterizing her in Phineas' eyes both in youth and adulthood.
I haven't read many KOTOR stories, but the ones I've seen try to present in-game and post-game Revan as a completely different person than before her "death." You took a different take, showing us plainly that the stubbornness and impatience are very much still a part of her. Throughout the story Revan is struggling with her imperfections, as experience has humbled her enough to see the danger for what it is. Still, it was no easy thing to adhere to the Jedi code she repeated endlessly in her mind, as her life and the lives of those she loved hung in the balance. There was no direct foe she could defeat in combat; even when the Sith threat was finally exposed to her, she couldn't simply kill and move on. The subtleties of political intrigue were very well presented, and Revan found herself in a carefully-orchestrated trap that a lightsaber couldn't cut open.
I also really enjoyed Dustil's slow progress through this story, and that he didn't just shirk the Sith teachings as if he were changing his clothes. His growth was also presented well, as he comes to terms with his resentment toward his father, and Revan.
Wonderful story, excellent character development and relationship growth. |
Jedi Jaz 2008-01-06 . chapter 46 Thank you for this. I've been reading it voraciously since I discovered it and it just about made me cry. Your writing, while a little rough in a couple of small details, is engaging and wonderful, characterization awesome... I want to hunt down everything else you've written now. lol And now to the next parts... :) |
Rogue151 2006-07-23 . chapter 46Such a fantastic story, looking forward to reading the sequels now. You really have a talent for stroy telling, whether with scenes in the future or just regular flashbacks mixed in with the present, had me on the edge of my seat and even crying. You don't have the picture so black and white, which is the way it should be. This has been a great enjoyment and I it's causing me to dive right into the next installment. Also I really do hope you finish the third Fic in this series cause if you don't I'll personally will be very disappointed, but I have faith that you will. Anyway I'll stop this long review now. ^_^ |
Rogue151 2006-07-23 . chapter 45Yey! He didn't die, this chapter was so enjoyable, going to read the last.. |
Rogue151 2006-07-23 . chapter 39aw I knew Phineas probably had a hand in this whole plot I just didn't want to adimit it...I knew Juhani was going to die too, she was never in the forward flashes. I've never teared up twice during one chapter of a fanfic and yet in this one I have. Great read going to read more. Loved Phineas as a character, still hope he doesn't die, it's so interesting to have a member of Revan's family as part of the plot instead of just a far off memory.
I also love the planet is red like Mars, which is the Roman god of War, just seems to fit a home planet of Revan's doesn't it? |
Rogue151 2006-07-23 . chapter 30I'm loving Phineas, he's interesting, and seems to really care for Revan, I really hope he doesn't end up being the one who tried to kill Revan. Anyway going to read more. |
Rogue151 2006-07-23 . chapter 24I know I'm reading a story that you've already finished, but after reading this chapter I just HAVE to review, it's rare that someone introduces a family member from Revan's past. And the fact that you've revealed a brother has me excited. Now I'm off to read more. Really great story. ^_^ |
JOSH 2005-07-29 . chapter 46 Excellently wrote story. Things make better sense now with the part three I'm reading. Going to read part two now. |
Jess 2005-07-07 . chapter 46 Awesome, powerful story! I loved your characterizations and how you wove past and present dialoge and visions together. Your Revan was dead-on; I loved how you didn't make her some perfect, robotic servant of the light, but someone who was still struggling to accept her past and the darkness within herself. Wonderful writing. |
Dinah Lance 2005-06-28 . chapter 46Hey, Rose. My reviews tend to be a little rambling, so let me know if you have any questions. I also tend to use bullet points. Yeah, so, here we go:
-First off, I love the title and how you wove it into the story--the idea that nothing really ends. Good stuff.
-I like the perspective. You use a point-of-view that's very similar to the one I normally use--a kind of limited third person that centers on one person and captures their thoughts and feelings. I think it can be a great style because it allows a lot of flexibility, and you do it very well.
-Speaking of Revan's thoughts, I love the way you weave in memories. I enjoyed the longer flashbacks, but I especially liked the little snippets of previous conversations or stuff from the game that you threw in. It felt to me very much like how memory really works. I also love the little pieces of internal thoughts. You capture a lot of Revan's feeling without overpowering the reader with monologue.
-Dustil is great, and I hope to see more of him in your other stories. I think the tendency is to make him a Carth clone or an Angst Muffin. You've managed to find a more realistic and nuanced characterization.
-The supporting cast is very strong. They assist in the plot without getting in the way and acted very in character, including Canderous ;) Good work with the Candy-man!
-I think my favorite character in the piece (besides Revan, who is so much more than a simple character) is Carth. Even though he's unconscious throughout most of the story, you've made him such a presence, a very essential presence. He felt very in character and strong to me as well.
Okay, I think that's all I have for now. When I catch up to your current work, I'll try to give more detailed reviews of individual chapters instead of a mess of overall impressions. But I wanted you to know how much I enjoyed this piece. |
 Arrow 2005-01-24 . chapter 46...
All I can say is this was bloody fantastic. |
Prisoner 24601 2004-12-30 . chapter 43I think my favorite part of this whole fic is the changing, antagonistic dynamic between Dustil and Revan.
Although I'm unconvinced that the Council would allow Dustil to become Revan's apprentice (seems like a huge conflict of interest to me), I'm really enjoying watch the conflict between the two play out.
The confrontation between Revan and Dustil where she realizes that Dustil was blaming himself for Juhani's death was very well done. And I love the little inappropriate flash of pride Revan has when she sees Dustil smirking at Sakh.
I love how both she and Dustil have anxiety at seeing Carth again. And I really loved the last line.
Lovely work all around! |
AnbuShinobi 2004-12-19 . chapter 46 Such a good read ^^ All the characters are so well developed in the story. Though the end leaves you wondering what happens to Phineas or maybe its just me...^^; Nice job and keep up the good work :D |
Kosiah 2004-12-16 . chapter 49Bah, where's chapter 48 gone? I wanted to go back and reread it before reviewing...
Pulling a happy ending out of a story this dark is no mean feat and you pull it off amazingly. I really enjoyed this, and am very pleased there's a sequel already up and running :)
General comments: Framing the entire story in the future tense scene of Dustil and Revan going to meet Carth again on Telos is such a cool thing. It allows you to foreshadow, backshadow...all in all it just works. Works really really well. Thanks again for writing that and put chapter 48 up again! |
snackfiend101 2004-12-15 . chapter 49 Perfect! Somehow, it all works out...wow. I'll go check out your other story now, okay? |
