Saya Aensland 2006-01-26 . chapter 12While I like your version of Jin's name origin, alas, it is incorrect. See, the meaning of a name depends on the characters (kanji) that are used to write the name. The same kanji can be read in several different ways, and the same sound can be written with several different kanji. Japanese is confusing like that. The kanji for Jin's name means "virtue". Incidentally, it's the same kanji that is in Jinpachi's name. It's implied that Kazuya had a good relationship with his grandfather when he was a kid, so maybe Jin was named after him. Maybe.
And as an extra fun fact, other name meanings!
Asuka: Flying bird
Kazuya: One eight
Heihachi: Flat eight
Jinpachi: Virtue eight
Jun: Standard/rule/aim/quasi-/semi-/level
The moral of the story is: The Mishima men give crappy names to their sons, and Japanese names rarely have pretty, meaningful translations. Asuka and Jin got lucky.
Oh, and I love all of your Kazuya/Jun fics! Have almost all of them in my Favorites. |
