What a satisfying read - probably as satisfying as that Madeira cake, I'll wager :-) That was such a great idea! I just loved the whole concept of the Madeira raid - you pulled that off beautifully. I also really love how you've managed to capture the Captain's voice - I can virtually hear him next to my ear as I read. You also did a great job of capturing the volatile nature of both the principals, as well as their contradictions. A beautiful piece of writing all around - thank you so much for sharing!
