Lady Serpentine 2005-01-14 . chapter 5So for some reason I decided to look up Bellatrix and Severus on today and I saw this title and went, 'God, that looks vaguely familiar' before remembering hp_canada. Yes.
So. As I've said before on lj (alliante in the community, and such), this story kicks effing **. And makes me think nice things about Quebec, which is frankly quite odd. |
NM (Narcissa Malfoy 2004-07-24 . chapter 5Wow. How do you pack so much into so little? Reading this fic was like riding a very enjoyable whirlwind. Everything passing so quickly and brightly (appropriate in a story whose theme is inpermanence) and laughter, love, and disgust sot tightly wound up in each other.
The characters are so distinct and *light*, silly young aristocrats enjoying themselves, with the exception, of course, of Snape, and in that last scene, Bellatrix actually taking a look at herself. They had me laughing all through, from Rabastan's 'rhymes' to the ambassador's dramatics to Regulus's silly remarks about his family.
And this really does have a wonderfully Quebecois atmosphere, cafes and snow and oh Bonhomme. I'm amazed you managed to give a silly stuffed mascot such a poignant role.
If this reminds me of anything, it's of Shakespeare's comedies, with love triangles, and mistaken identities, and embarassing moments, and disguises etc. It's the same spirit here as in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream,' and like those comedies, the dream is never too far for a nightmare.
