One bit of criticism...read your work out load before posting it...it'll help you catch those little slip-ups that happen when you get so wrapped up in the story that your fingers fly over the keyboard.

I think the kiss happened a bit too fast, and was unexpected considering they were trying to talk. I would've expected the kiss to happen, perhaps, right when Rachel decided to change the conversation...like an impulse, and then Bailey's call could interrupt, and then there'd be some real tension behind the silence on the plane.

And while getting John's backstory is interesting, doesn't it feel a bit rushed? I don't know how long you intend this piece to be, but I feel you might want to drag out stuff like this...he might really WANT to tell her, but he also has YEARS of defense mechanisms in place, and simply may not be able too, which will make Rachel doubt, and that will cause plenty of ANGST!

Just a few thoughts. :)

Interesting...now, is this Damien guy the one that we were introduced to in the last Profiler episode? The one that killed Marks? I can't remember, it's been so long...

Great chapter! I hope they catch the killer. You know i'm not big on Rachel and John but i can deal with it because you're a great writer:)

I see you haven't updated in a while, which is sad, cause it's an enjoyable read, and we don't see that many fics Rachel-based. I'm especially curious that the killer might be a possible VCTF member, so theories are floating around... you should write more, and heck, give us a head's up at profiler_fans when you do! :)

I have enjoyed the story so far. In a way John's self imposed exile from his friends mirrored Rachel's imprisonment. A get together with the team, minus Rachel, would only have amplified her state of imprisonment, her lack of freedom. It sounds like John made getting her released his main mission in life. A loyal friend unwilling to go on with his life while hers was on hold. Now that she is free, they have a chance to heal, and perhaps trust in love. For John, love and the pain of loss are connected. He never took friendship lightly because it was the closest connection he could have that resembled family ties. John has released his most immediate grief but Nathan's murder may be the catalyst that brings to the surface all of John's fierce anger toward the violence, cruelty and losses he has endured in his life. Baily may have a tiger by the tail until this case gets worked out.

I like the way Rachel and John interact, the way she can get into his heart and soul. I have never got the chance to watch Profiler's Fourth Season, so I don't almost know Rachel Burke.

This is quite a story and I am dying to read more.

One question though: is John wearing contact lenses? If so, is it just in your fic or you get to know this during Season four?
