Rhyselle 2007-03-18 . chapter 1I can't imagine how I missed reading this lovely little fic for a whole two years, but I'm so glad I found it today. I've always had a special place in my heart for Pippin ever since I first read LOTR at age 10.
Very touching tale, and I'm glad that he appreciates his relationship with his da, particularly now that he's seen the Denethor/Boromir/Faramir family dynamic.
Well done. |
onoff 2006-05-28 . chapter 1This is the first story I happened upon at and how thankful I am! What a beautiful little snippet into Pippin's thoughts and family. Judging by the other reviews for this story, I'm not writing anything original when I say that this is a great piece of writing.
Thanks for sharing your gift on the intarwebs. :) |
fidrich 2005-12-22 . chapter 1 Oh, this is lovely. I've always wondered about Pippin's relationship with his father: being the only boy in the family and heir to the Thainship, while simulatenously being the youngest (and therefore coddled) and, well, the silly foolish irrepresibly curious little hobbit that he is... It seems like he'd have the instinct to live up to family expectations while not being able to resist his Pippin-ness, and spend a lot of his thoughtful periods worrying about whether he'd failed, somehow.
Anyway, I thought this captured that sort of idea perfectly. I loved Pippin's allusions to the Faramir/Boromir/Denethor relationship: for the past year or so that's the only father/son relationship he's been exposed to: no wonder it's playing on his mind so much. Pippin and Faramir are alike in so many ways, except Paladin can take off his Thain's hat and just be happy and proud of his son, and so Pippin's eagerness to please gets paid off - whereas we all know where Faramir's lands him. One of the things I got from this fic was that it was Pippin's witnessing this far more warped family relationship helped him to appreciate his father so much more. In fact, didn't Pippin call *his* son Faramir? *ponders this*
Well, this turned more into a musing than a review, but I have to say I'm loving what I've read of your stuff so far. I made my way here via a link on one of rabidsamfan's drabbles and I'm thouroughly enjoying your work. Two thumbs up!! :)

RavenLady 2005-02-12 . chapter 1I hardly ever read hobbit stories, but this one was recommended to me and I'm impressed. The ending is sweet, and I love the line about Pippin's height. The reference to Faramir and Denethor is poignant, too. |
Herald7 2004-12-14 . chapter 1 I always like reading your stuff and this is probably my favorite fan fiction interpretation of Pippin's father so far. :) |
Loki-chan 2004-09-09 . chapter 1 Aw. *Hugs self* That is so sweet and cute...Baylor, oyur fics never cease to give me that warm, fuzzy feeling inside. You bring the hobbits to life. Never stop writing. If you're still writing when you're 80 years old, I'll still be reading. :) |
Lossenrhos 2004-08-27 . chapter 1That is so sad- sweet- lovely. I really liked the reference to Faramir and Denethor- it made my heart ache. And the end- little Pippin seems to have finally grown up grown up *sniff*. |
pipinheart 2004-08-18 . chapter 1really great story of a son' and father's love. I loved that he often though of his nurse who took care of him as a child.
I love the ending that he was glad that his father was Paladin Took and no other...
a great read... |
Pipkin Sweetgrass 2004-08-17 . chapter 1Oh, my goodness! Another triumph. But of course, you're the reason I ever gave fan fiction a second thought. Your work is always splendid. |

angelsflame265 2004-08-15 . chapter 1A lot of people dream of this moment with there own fathers, i'm glad you showed it in a story :) |

eiluj 2004-08-14 . chapter 1 Hullo. I guess I owe you a zillion glowing reviews, but I'm not so good at reviewing. I have long loved your portrayal of Merry's relationship with his father. Now there's this story for Pip and *his* father.
It's terrible to say I am motivated to review by an "oops" -- but I think in the fifth sentence of the third paragraph you meant to write "mundanities."
Thanks again. |
