 Lady Nara 2007-12-31 . chapter 1 Hi!
I am putting together a list of MoB fic recs that I am making public. I wanted to contact you as the author of several fics that I am reccing and let you know what I'm doing, provide you with a link to the listings, and give you the opportunity, if you so prefer, to request changes to the listings or to state that you would rather not be recced.
Currently I have recced these fics of yours: "Turn Around," and "The Harsh Greys of Existentialism."
You can find my link page here: http://del.icio.us/Lady_Nara
Thank you for your time!

Wai - Aki 2005-02-24 . chapter 1Wow. You've managed to convey just how much this series and these characters (Naoe in particular) *hurt*. Naoe angst at its best. Naoe is a complex character and you did a great job. Lovely work. |
authorialintent 2004-09-01 . chapter 1The fact that you wrote a MoB fic delights me. I -love- Mirage. I ought to churn out something myself, but honestly, the fandom is intimidating--it's such a subtle, complex series that it's really hard to characterize well.
My speculation, actually, is that Takaya's feelings for Yuzuru are at least somewhat platonic; his reaction to the idea of m/m relationships throughout the series seems to suggest that he never really considered the possibility. I'm convinced that Yuzuru's are completely so--he seems oblivious to -everything- crashing down around him.
I quibble, therefore, with the premise of your fic--although I could easily see hackles rise on both sides--but I did love your on-target use of the verb "**." So Naoe. Ahh. |
Nightengale13 2004-08-30 . chapter 1You know that every time one rereads something and actually pays it the attention it deserves, one notices more details and implications than the last time. This time around, I found a line that made me jerk with a little mental spasm of sympathy for Naoe:
.
"It is beyond my imagination that I will ever know peace again."
.
::shudder:: God stuff.
.
That's basically what I could say about this whole story. In the same way that you understand Rose, you understand Naoe. Your way is one not often seen, a way that displays sympathy without stooping so low as to suggest these men are pitiable, instead demonstrating a full awareness of all their faults and complexities. They are not pitiable, nor victims--Naoe chose his way, he chose to save his lord, and he must deal with those consequences.
.
Never consciously having noticed the contradiction between Naoe saving Yuzuru and Naoe sacrificing Kagetora's wife to save Kagetora, this story not only presented that inconsistency to me, but through that made me a little more aware of how Naoe is truly human-like. Because of this story, and the discussions we've had about it and the series in general, I more fully appreciate the characterization quality of MoB. Good stories do that--they make you think, or teach you something. Or at the very least, they show you what the show/book/whatever looks like through someone else's eyes.
.
And one last note, in my beta capacity: I still love the "dominate and be possessed by him" line. M. A little clumsy, but by god, powerful.
.
Quilts for you, Sorcha.
