I've just come back to re-read this after (shamefully) failing to do so when I first read it. It's one of the most unusual AUs, not so much because of your very well realised alter-world society (which I really enjoyed, particularly the way you simply let things play out, displaying the world naturally rather than having everything presented in perfect, logical, indigestible infodumps), but because of your characters.

I'm not always keen on the frequently spotted vampire!Kenshin, and your Drakenwere suits him much better (at least for my preferred characterisation), but it was an especial pleasure to see a Kaoru who is an elder and a power in her own right. It does, necessarily, evolve her character, but I liked it. A young Kenshin-as-Beast works well too, and is just as unusual – but it's not as if he all people is going to need the advantage. As it is, neither one of them overshadows the other.

Ah! I love your Aoshi and Misao! Please make a story with just them!! I loove love love love them! Your Aoshi is so sexy and in character, and I love the spunk that you give Misao without making her too immature~! I love them both! This fic drives me crazy xP

I am such a huge supporter of Aoshi and Misao! I was reading so avidly through the last part of this chapter that I completely blocked out everything else in the world xP anyway, Hanya was sent by Aoshi, wasn't he?? And I think what I got hyped up the most was how you mentioned bits and pieces of Misao and Hanya's past life, and when Misao was a kid and such. I luurve those kinds of things ^__^ I hope this story delves just as much into Aoshi and Misao as it does with Kenshin and Kaoru! That would be absolutely *PERFECT* =D

Wow! What an opening! This is one of the most exciting Rurouni Kenshin fanfics I've read in a long time! I'm so EXCITED!! EEK! Yay! ^__^ Hehe. And I'm also SO HYPED that this is written so well! Your writing structure is absolutely fabulous; everything was written so smoothly, and your usage of imagism was top-notch! And so far, nobody seems to be so "OOC" like everyone has been talking about =3 At this point, I'm so sucked into the story that I don't even care if anyone's OOC--I'm reading the whole way through ^__^ Because I have a feeling this is going to be one heckuva ride!

Entertaining story, though not quite as polished as 'The Geas', mainly due to the numerous typographical errors such as missing or mis-used words as when you wrote "I had been too late" instead of "It had been too late".

Kaoru was very much OOC, but that's to be expected in an AU where she really wasn't herself. Watsuki's Kaoru would fall over in shock at the prospect of becoming a flirtatious vampire chick. This Kaoru has more of a sense of humor to go with her uncharacteristic self assurance and massive amounts of power. She's more interesting because of it.

I do think you missed out on a great dramatic opportunity when you neglected to write Enishi's death scene. All that buildup about Enishi as villainous mastermind, and no payoff. We never actually got to see his comeuppance. It also seemed improbably that neither Kaoru nor Kenshin made the connection between Enishi and Tomoe. If Kenshin was engaged to the woman since childhood then surely at some point he would've met her brother and recognized his head being dragged through the council chamber by Saitoh.

Oh well, at least it had a happy epilogue.
