The Fatalist

Very good.

A wonderfully original look at that aspect of the magical world. Once you've dropped yourself down into the rabbit hole... you can't climb out. And so in gaining so much, you lose so much. I truly think that I, at least, would choose this world over the wizarding one. A slightly strange realisation to come to. But one I am not ashamed to admit. There are so many kinds of dreams that to lay aside those of magic for others of the beautiful intricacies of our world is a more than fair trade. Oh, at times like this I know it is beautiful. Thankyou for reminding me.

So, enough of the weird rambling. I do wonder if there wouldn’t be some way to use magic - like memory or confundus charms - to get around that lack of paperwork and re-enter the mugle world. It would be difficult, especially with the gaps in knowledge one would acquire in their absence, but not impossible. But never mind. It's a brilliant notion to explore.

Interesting. But you know what I found real funny is that if she just talked to one of her ‘muggle’ relatives she could have learned that you can do high school over the internet; therefore been able to experience her dreams.

One thing that gets to me the Ministry of Magic routinely uses memory charms and lie to muggles, surely they have an office that could create the proper identification needed to get into a university.

Also if Sinistra was ‘one of the brightest students in her House, one of the best in the year, actually.’ Why wouldn’t she just go to a university use magic to become a student or enchant her application so it ‘appeared’ that she filled out ‘Name and address of secondary school.’ E.g. notice me not charm.

Very insightful to the problems of joining the muggle word with how isolated the magical world is.

This is perfectly lovely, especially in the way that it points out those truths that are so often ignored in the Harry Potter fandom. (I chuckled, for instance, at the line about the Astronomy Tower not being so perfect for romantic retreats since classes were held almost nightly.) And poor Sinistra, feeling so bitter and resigned because of something she did as a eleven year old...

So sad! This is an idea that never occured to me reading Rowling's books. Good writing!

I really like this, it is definitely a unique perspective. I remember reading something similar to this at one point where Hermione realizes that she has become irrevocably separated from her muggle heritage. . .

Anyway, great job on this!

Oh. Oh, crap.

I can't believe I never thought of this before.

It is called homeschooling and tutoring. Or even better, Credit by Exam (CBE). Fun little known fact, most Universities will admit students who pass an entrance exam of the University's choice. That may be in the form of an oral exam, national test, or whatever. Why do you think that we take national exams, and submit the scores as part of the application process? Secondary education records are more to give an indication of a student's consistancy, and studiousness.

This was fascinating. It's less 'story' than exploration of a detail not often addressed: how excized Muggleborn students are from their own world. And what if they want to go back? One presumes that the Wizarding World wouldn't have much trouble creating fake documents, but it doesn't make up for the *knowledge* they lack.

I'm toying with taking on the issue of getting into (Muggle) college, albeit in this case for a wizard born. The paper trail is the least of his problems. He doesn't know basic biology or history or even English lit.

Interesting - the point that Hogwarts only prepares students to function in the Magical world is well taken.

Interesting concept- how by embracing their magic the Muggleborns loose any real chance at rejoining the world of their birth. It's little wonder that the two worlds are so seperate. Even forged documents would be useless since the Muggleborns genuinely *would* only have partial emementary school education.
