Scarred Sword Heart 2007-05-29 . chapter 1Love the first part based on the manga.
Didn't like the second part based on Seisuckhen. |
Rio Grande 2006-01-02 . chapter 1Oh God... that was so sad how you did that. That little transition from Kaoru and Kenshin's first confessions of love to Kaoru and Kenji waiting for a long absent Kenshin... harsh. I love how you write Kenshin. He's not too soft, like some people portray him, and not too harsh, like the people who are obsessed with Batoussai portray him. It was nice and really romantic. His reasoning actually made sense, for once. I hate it when people just use the, 'I'm too tainted and drity for innocent little Kaoru' card and don't give Kenshin any credit in the actual reasonable thinking department. Good job, please continue this story! |
I'm Dying in America 2005-01-25 . chapter 1I like it! Write more soon. *Glares* I mean soon! |
Adamant Eve aka anna-neko 2004-11-03 . chapter 1Ah! Finally I got to sit down and give this story the attention it deserves, and what a start! Beautiful beginning. I think I went through a dozen levels of angst. It was an excellent ride.
The aspects of this chapter that deserves the most praise are the following:
First; Kenshin and Kaoru's discussion about love. As long-time RK fans, we all know how unworthy Kenshin feels he is when it comes to Kaoru. Most of us writers have used this aspect of Kenshin's personality, time and again, when it comes to their romance. Unfortunately, as time wore on, we have grown weary of how cryptic and abstract Kenshin's idea of unworthiness has become. The way you wrote it, it became fresh, believable, tangible, understandable--exactly what the fandom needs. The intricacies of Kenshin's thoughts pertaining to the widely popular "unworthiness" issue was wonderfully laid out, as if to say, "This is what it means; Kenshin isn't just being an idiot, and look! It seems that he *does* have ample justification!" I loved all that. This conversation and the tone set behind it was perfect.
Second, Kaoru looking out to sea; Kenji's perception of it all. I swear, this passage was so elegantly simple that it brought a tear to my eye. Kenji's half-weary attitude towards it was just enough to keep it melodrama free, yet we know it's eating away at our Kaoru. Excellent job. The mention of Chizuru's departure was a perfect touch. Very good storytelling.
I'm looking forward to how it will all turn out. The first part: Kenshin's romantic and heartfelt promises; compared to the second part: How we vaguely come to feel that Kenshin forgot those promises he made, makes me want to know why it happened and whether it is as bad as we thought. Maybe in the end, we'd come to understand Kenshin--but that is thinking too far ahead. As of now, I will definitely be following it one chapter at a time.
This first chapter was superb! I'll look forward to more. |

Lady Hitokiri Battousai 2004-10-27 . chapter 1Wow, all the kinds of fics that I like and look for are hard to find. This is one of those fics that grabs my interest in the very first chapter. The fact that Kenji is grown up alone makes me want more. Don't get me wrong, I like everything about this fic so far. I don't find a lot of them where Kenji and Kenshin see each other. Are you going to put that in, or is he gone forever? Anyway, sorry, I'm rambling. Lol, I can't wait 'til you update! |
