2009-10-31 . chapter 56
What can I say that 1263 reviewers have not already? And I'm wondering if you are even checking your reviews still? But in any case, after hours of blissful reading, I feel I do owe you one, so here you go:
A good story, very good. Definetely up in the top 10 I have read. I'm quite selective about what I add to favourites, and this one I did.
Points of praise:
1) Your characterisation of Snape. Wonderful. So many times I was almost sqealing with joy at the wittiness, the snarky words you put in his mouth and the ill-tempered thoughts in his head.
2) Your OC, Hannah. Equally witty, utterly likeable and so well written that by now I feel I know her as well as my own sister.
3) Your plot. You managed to keep the interest and suspense throughout a rather long story, with a few brilliant twists that came totally unsuspected. It all flowed naturally and logically. Many stories start well and then turn rancid somewhere in the middle. This one did not - well done!
4) Your language. Flawless, original, a joy to read.

A few (minor) points of criticism:

1) I came across a fair amount of typos. I'm not really bothered by those, but I think this story is so good it deserves to be flawless.
2) I guess the story is by now very much AU. This is not really a criticism, but due to when it was written. Some of the olde-worldly formality and views that you give your Severus, esp. with respect to his relationship with Hannah, do seem a little out of place now that we know Snape was in fact working class.
3) Somewhere towards the end, around the wedding preparations and yet another stay at the hospital wing, I felt things were getting a bit too drawn out and soppy.
And Btw, what was the M rating for? Did I miss something?
Overall, a wonderful story, a great achievement, congratualtions and thanks for sharing!

Hannah is one of the better OCs in fanfiction. Top Twenty, I'd say, and I'm not sure which characters would fit in most of the other places.

If you ever consider writing a sequel, even a oneshot, it will be read.

2009-10-06 . chapter 55
“There are…regrets. It seems there were always more pressing concerns…You were so strong, and others were not – it was easy to just trust that you would somehow manage on your own, and you always did, but…there are regrets. I don’t think I have ever even told you how dear you are to me, in all these years. There is so much you would have deserved that I never gave you, so many things I should have told you that I never said. I am sorry.”

yay!

Well, I finally finished, and it was just lovely.

I completely believe that JKR really gave our favorite Potions Master a mighty screwing over when she left him to die on the filthy floor of the Shrieking Shack. After all his years of effort of sacrifice, how nice that fan fic gives you and other authors the opportunity to give Severus the kind of ending he deserves.

Good show!

Oh, and if you are actually still checking your reviews, I would really appreciate the recipe for the fruitcake you mentioned at the end of chapter 44. Don't make me beg; it's not pretty.

Poor Hannah. What a horrible father! As for Severus, well, his reaction is completely understandable, especially as he was exactly the sort of spy he accused her of being. What a lovely twist to the convention. I'm still thoroughly enjoying the story!

By the way, I must tell you how much I love your Minerva. I love that she's truly Severus' friend. I love that Hannah wants to understand rather than condemn.

I'm finding this utterly fascinating, and was just a little shocked to see how similar some of the plot underpinnings are to my most recent SS/HG exchange story (I'm actually a little relieved I've never read this until now, which just goes to show that there really is nothing new under the sun, just different ways to spin the tale.)

Anyway, I absolutely love the way you've set the dynamics into play here. That Hannah is Hannigan's estranged daughter is brilliant!

So despite all good intentions, my time was sidetracked and I'm just now getting back to the story. I'm thoroughly enjoying it, which says a lot for the story as I generally dislike OFCs in a main pairing, but your Hannah is really quite nice (there's that word) and I like the gentle way you've set this up. I imagine his finding a place where no one knows him would be very soothing, and her suggestion would initially suit him perfectly.

I have long had this story on my 'to be read' list, but I'm seizing the opportunity to read it today. What an excellent hook for an opening. The reactions of the staff are all plausible and I'm eager to read more.

I like! I love Flitwick, the crafty old bird. So sneaky...

I thought Snape was characterized really well in this, as was your invented character, Hannah. Hannigan scared me more than a bit in his insanity but he was probably suppose to.
Wormtail was so evil... not that i'm surprised. I liked the house elves too. so cute. Though poor Lupin feeling all alone! I liked him too. Why is he not with Tonks? Did you start this before that event took place? Maybe he'll meet her at the reception...
Really did love it, beautiful job!

I was directed to this story by Mark Darcy and have enjoyed it entirely. Lovely work. Are you still writing?
