SO Jann Lee.

This is such an amusing story. I've read it more times than I care to admit, taken by the "romantic realism" (i.e. nothing fluff or sugary) in the interaction between Jann Lee and Lei Fang. And the dialogue makes me giggle. Whenever I envision Jann Lee breaking "the fucking door down," it brightens my day tremendously.

I do have characterization issues (i.e. Jann Lee's "verbal expression"), and the idea that "everyone" is drinking and celebrating (i.e. with one another) at the start of the tournament is a bit... far-fetched (there are far too many grudges and rivalries to count). Still, "The Birth Of A Champion" is a long-standing favorite, and among the most enjoyable and well-conceived Jann LeexLei Fang stories around. Kudos.
