Reviews For: The Things I Do For My Country
El Gringo Loco 2008-11-27 . chapter 1
I found this story by searching a reference given by another author. It is delightful and I thank he author for sharing it.

I have always liked Frau Linkmeyer as a character. She might be older, a bit dowdy and more than a bit corpulent. But it's not the wrapper that counts. It's whats inside and I always felt that there was something there. Even so, I truly enjoyed Hogan's discomfoture at the situation. And all that kind, caring support given him by - everybody.

So funny that I nearly hurt myself laughing.

Gertrude Linkmeyer is held up to ridicule on the show, and in our own writing, for not being young and beautiful like the various sex objects thrown in for the stars to enjoy. Yet if we look in the mirror, how many of us will see Hilda looking back, and how many will see Frau Linkmeyer?

She is a woman living in a society where her required role is wife and mother. Yet she cannot even fulfill that role because she has lost her husband, who might perhaps have been her lifelong love. The only status she has is due to her brother's position. In a world of couples, she is the odd woman out. The leftovers. And because so many people who want only the Hildas and Tigers and Maryas of the world, she will almost certainly stay that way.

She was young once. She may even have been beautiful once. Perhaps truly loved. Now she has nothing, not even hope. Can we perhaps forgive her some bitterness and desperation? In her world, would we do any better?

Just something to think about.

And maybe write about.

Oh, I love your stories. Are you *certain* you didn't write for the show? The characters' mannerisms, the humor, the whole flavor of the show is so *right there*. Wonderful imagery, too. And I thought I'd split my sides with the bedroom scene. Very nice how you managed to have Klink still end up with Gertrude. ::snicker:: Thanks for another great story, Jeff!

Very scary. Not sayin' I didn't laugh, 'cause I did, but Hogan's a better man than I am.

Poor Getrude! Having to settle for the Bald Eagle of Stalag 13 when she (thinks) she's just had the dashing Colonel Hogan!

Hilarious, Jeff! I loved Schultz's quote - "But there’s absolutely nothing that I would want to do with Frau Linkmeyer." LOL

Hahahahaha! Ah, poor Hogan... the sacrifices one must make... but I think Gertrude is a lot smarter than they are all giving her credit for! Maybe it was just her turn to have a drool!
ML Miller Breedlove 2004-11-18 . chapter 1
Ha! Great story, It's fun to see Hogan lose a gender war! Of course Gertrude has heavy artillery. (On both fronts!)

I sure didn't see that coming, and if they had filmed this story, a split screen to get the reaction from Kinch and the others. This was one funny story.

This has to be the most hilarious thing I've read in a long time! "Poor" Hogan! ^_^ Couldn't keep the dumb smirk off my face there at the end!

So funny! What a great little story. Fun premise, great dialog. I could see the whole thing as clearly as if it was an actual episode!
