| Cerise Tennyo 2004-12-26 ch 1, anon. | abuseErm...I'm sorry to be the nit-picking rain on the parade, but...CC is a period anime/manga, set just before the Great Depression in America. The sinking of the Titanic was in 1912, about 16 ago in terms of story--and recent enough for Rosette to have heard stories about it asa child. (It had an enormous socio-economic impact, not to mention the impact it had on the women's suffrage movement.) Cameron's movie makes a poor source for historical reference. It has some great effects, but that's about it. There never was a Titanic II. The White Star Line did indeed build a third ship, part of the "Great Three" they envisioned, but due to the negative publicity of the Titanic's sinking, they ended up calling it the Britannic (as opposed to the original name, the Gigantic), which enjoyed far less popularity than either of her sisters, was conscripted for war service, and sunk during WW2. *However*, if you set your story aboard the Olympic, which was Titanic's sister ship and very similar in appearance and luxury level to the Titanic (no private parlor suites on the Olympic, though), then you'd be on the mark, historically speaking. Sorry to go on about this...I just happen to know a lot about the Titanic as the subject fascinates me. (In fact, the only "Titanic 2" in existence is a horrid, horrid straight-to-video movie involving vampires. Wretched thing, really.) If you're at all curious about the history of the real ship, I recommend the online site, the Encyclopedia Titanica. It really is one of the best sources around--and no, I am not affiliated with the site in any way, shape, or form. :) (That, or read Walter Lord's "A Night to Remember.") |
