I'm more then slightly curious how this story would have played out if you had continued. It is the first story I have come across where Harry is deaf. I love the originality of this story!!

Ahh, intriguing story! First time I've read about this particular plot idea, so nice job on originality ;)

Yeah, I think it's rather unfair that sign language is not taught in schools, even when it's an official language of a country. (It's an official language in NZ) I've learnt some bits and bobs from a friend with autistic brothers, but certainly not enough for a conversation.

Anyway, bit of a ramble there, maybe you should get someone to try and learn sign language, just to make Harry feel a bit less... lonesome. I sure would if I was there! ;)
