I've never read anything quite like this before. You have a good writing style, and the characters are great. Which is impressive, given that they're mostly OCs, and it's kind of hard to do good OCs in fanfic.

Hey, don't worry about Valentine's Day. I had nobody either! However, I did eat lots of chocolate and candy, and the guys in our mixed choir got each of the girls in the choir roses. It was all good!
I just had to laugh at the students. I LOVE students! They sort of remind me of the ones like in Les Miserables, all awesome-like and everything. But these guys are just plain funny. (I'll give you a dollar if you have them build a barricade and fight to the death...I love Les Miz)
Oh, and Lisa = cute. I just like her. Too cool.

I like how easy it is to distinguish the newsies' dialogue and the college students' dialogue. And then theres Sam, somewhere in the middle but more toward intellectual lol. I could totally picture Sam standing there in his old, dirty clothes talking to those well-groomed and clean students, hehe. Good visual..

Hey look, you updated! I'm incredibly proud. And seriously, had you not mentioned the slashyness at the end of the last chapter, I wouldn't have noticed at all. I even backtracked to read it (as opposed to Racetracked...AHH I'm a dork) and then I was like, "Heh heh...oh." And it was good.
Oh, Sam. Gotta love him. It makes me feel bad that selling with Potato didn't work out, but they're still both the coolest and that's nice.

Sam's dream is so sad, i sympathized a ton. kids can be so cruel lol. Im glad you didnt just lay out his entire story in one shot. it adds a little bit of suspense and "mystery". I love drunk!Spot too!! so adorable..

Great chapter! I love these guys. They all seem so real. "...vocabulary you to death." Haha! That was the best, and definately the first time I've ever heard the word "vocabulary" used as a verb. Very nice!

Heya'! Cute story! I like Sam. Anyway, in answer to your question, that "cute kid" is Snitch, and the kid he shares a bed with (Heh heh...) is Itey. Neither of them really...talk...They're mostly just there to look slashy.

Smitty! i love all these characters dude. im glad Sam's making some friends :-) hopefully theyll steer him in the right direction; but maybe they wont?! i dont know! lol. cant wait to see how Sam and Spot meet up again. do they? maybe thats just my imagination lol.

Thumbsucker is Snitch! He doesnt have many speaking lines but hes in all the dances and songs. you can see him fighting at the distribution place for a few seconds in that scene. he doesnt have a big part tho.

Chapter two is as far as I can get tonight, because vacation + bad dial-up connection / five family members = appx. three minutes online. But I digress! I'm loving this one so far, and much more props that it's written in first-person. I am HORRIBLE at first-person, but people write better using different perspectives, so I guess it's not too big of a feat. Still, your writing comes out very natural, which is good. I like how you're brave enough to give a lot of one-liners at the end of this chapter at the risk of sounding cheesy or vague, but it works. Characters are great as well. Sam is great, Potato is absoloutely adorable. I'll be back later to review chapter three. Great so far!
