kasey8473 2005-01-14 . chapter 1I enjoyed this piece. I could certainly hear Jayne's 'voice' in the letter and throughout. I, too disagree with the criticism of word choice. Jayne, I think, does know some big, complicated words. Knows what they mean, etc. He might not be able to spell them too well though. I've a friend who's a soldier in the US Army and he has a decent vocabulary, but when it come to reading and writing everything out, he's not too great at either. He struggles with simple words and his spelling is...interesting. I think of Jayne that way. Knowing what words mean, but not especially good at writing them out.

I liked this. Very enjoyable. Hope to read more from you. |
Bookworm10 2004-12-31 . chapter 1I enjoyed this. I particularly liked the way you used the letter as a way to explore Jayne. And I don't entirely agree with the criticism in the previous review. After all, Jayne came up with the word "pretentious" (if memory serves correctly) in "Shindig," and he has made some very witty rejoinders. He's not stupid. Besides, this is a Joss Whedon 'verse: all characters have a talent for choosing just the right word for just the right occasion. |
Kurukami 2004-12-27 . chapter 1Interesting, and it does delve into the reservoir of emotions that Jayne has towards Simon, but... for some reason Jayne's "voice" just seems a bit off. I was certainly startled to see him use the word "humanitarian". The guy has trouble reading his own mom's letters, and you've got him idly jotting down a six-syllable word. |
