The Dragon Mage 2009-04-28 . chapter 1oh, that was awesome! i do so love Ged, and you captured him perfectly. About this not being canon, i don't know about that. i don't think it said anywhere when the mages were bound with spells of celibacy, and it makes sense for it not to happen until they gain thier staffs. What is very strange and very cool is that this actually explains something never explained in the book; why jasper never won his staff. maybe he weighed what he would gain and what he would lose and decided it wasn't worth losing... hm... |
Lily Of the West 2009-04-10 . chapter 1 I loved it. Thanks. |
Jessi Malfoy 2008-08-04 . chapter 1Hey, wow, this was really good. I hadn't read any Earthsea fic, and now I think I'm going to have to go looking. Very lovely. :) |
balaustine 2008-06-03 . chapter 1 Yes! Ged/Jasper! And I thought I was the only one who liked this couple. I love Jasper's thinly-veiled mocking, and Ged's anger; you've captured both their voices perfectly. I hope you'll write more about them! |
blue.bimbomushi 2007-06-16 . chapter 1Very good. Well-written and nicely in character. Evocative language and images. Enjoyed reading this a lot - thanks for listing it ^-^ |
cally777 2007-06-06 . chapter 1Its quite an interesting take on Ged and Jasper's relationship. And I love the idea of the Isolate Tower being a hotbed of homosexuality! Well I guess the wizards' school was likely based on the english public school system, so no surprise there. And they wonder where JK Rowling got her ideas from.
I would ignore the "its not canon" comments too. Its your story. Cant help feeling there could have been another chapter in there too. |
SpyofSorrow 2005-09-03 . chapter 1Big deal if it isn't canonically possible. It was hot, and I loved it very much. You write excellent! You must definitly create more Ged/Jasper, you must!

TrunkZy 2005-02-03 . chapter 1Very well-written! I like! Though I have no idea who Ged and Jasper are, since I read Earthsea in Danish and not English!
But very well-written and lovely idea!

Espresso Addict 2005-01-26 . chapter 1 Responding to previous review by Marauder... I'm not sure a blanket ban on all sexual drive can be canonically supported. The essay 'A Description of Earthsea' in 'Tales from Earthsea' states that 'Among sorcerors, few are strictly celibate, and many marry and bring up a family.' Celibacy is stated to have been imposed many years after the foundation of Roke, and many examples of non-celibate wizards are mentioned in 'Tales from Earthsea', including Morred, Medra & Ivory.
Neither Jasper nor Ged are mages at the time depicted, and indeed Jasper never gets his staff. It's canonically certain that both, at this point, lack the wisdom to cool their jealousy, and this could reasonably be extrapolated to overflow into other acts perceived by at least some of their elders as unwise.
Additionally, as UKLG substantially revised her views on the Earthsea universe in the many years between publishing 'A Wizard of Earthsea' and 'Tehanu', it is reasonable to write an interpretation of WoE that chooses to ignore UKLG's later views. |
Marauder 2005-01-20 . chapter 1Ged/Jasper is impossible; any Earthsea wizards having any sort of sex or love life is impossible, as their sexual energy is bound off when they begin their training. (See Tehanu.) Well-written, just canonically not possible. |
