Ari, this is beautiful. All of it ... it's perfect, it's gorgeous, the use of the quotes and .. all of it!
That last part,

" Ignoring her own penchant for not knowing the end till she’s read up to it, she opens it there.

And she sees what he means, and she knows (knows him), and she agrees, and she melts.

He surreptitiously opens one eye, sees what she’s doing, and closes it again.

She’ll understand.

I knew you would read this, and I wanted to tell you what I never could say somehow… that you’re my life’s great love. "

*sigh* Its amazing.

This is unbelievably gorgeous. I don't think I've read a story that deals with Rory and Jess in between engagement and marriage, and the realistic doubts and anxieties that plague them. Being together doesn't solve all their problems, it only makes them easier (or is it harder?) to deal with them.
I love the repetition of all these things "he knows" but can't do anything about.
"..startled at the reminder of the consistency of their thoughts." I love that you show how close they are in this way, that she speaks almost what he has been thinking.
"Perhaps it is this that makes them different. She needs him to know her. But she knows him only because she needs, for herself, to know him just as well, and (only for her) he is sometimes willing to share." I've had to read this line a few times to make sure I'm truly grasping it - and now I'm even more aware of how beautiful and realistic it is. Even for her, he only opens up sometimes. It's another characteristic they share, they're both intensely private people. For each other, though, they're "willing to share" - irremufable evidence of how much they love the other.
"Or maybe she won’t." I like that you simply and clearly state his fear that they may be growing apart.
"..by the way, he knows he has." Hee. I love Jess. He's too honest to deny his intelligence..
"..he draws her back to earth when he gets lost and thinks he’d like her with him." I love this metaphor, and the idea that they both act as anchors for the other, providing a beacon of love, or a sense of belonging, for the other.
"Why is it that books always seem to refer to them, themselves? Why can’t they just be the stories that they are?" I think that's the part of the attraction of books, for me. They show what could have been, in a different scenario, they make one feel less lost knowing that other people experience the same things. Right now, though, Jess and Rory just want to escape.
"It’s always a story, nothing but; flat, blank, dry letters on a sheet of paper." I'm really impressed by your punctuation in this sentence (odd as I'm sure that sounds). That semi-colon is very effective, and having to pause before "flat, blank.." changes the whole sentence, for me.
"“It doesn’t,” he says shortly." I love double meanings!
"(Rory is a barrier for his frustration, and in his mouth is where it stays until she kisses it away. She tastes it, but she understands, though she never tells him so.)" What is there to say, other than you write really well?
"He licks his lips and kisses her again and tries to feel bitter, and waits. It doesn’t come." He's expectant, and waiting for that sharp taste that mars what is sweet, and then it doesn't come. It remains sweet.
"And she sees what he means, and she knows (knows him), and she agrees, and she melts." I love your use of repetition and parentheses, and..everything. That's a fantastic, memorable line.
"She’ll understand." Is it okay if I take this as a sign that they'll make it?
"I knew you would read this, and I wanted to tell you what I never could say somehow… that you’re my life’s great love." This line would launch a thousand ships. It's beyond beautiful, and I'm definitely reading this book, so thank you for that.
I love this fic. I've read a lot of your work, and I apologize if I haven't reviewed before. Your writing has a poetic, haunting quality about it that really makes it stand out.

I hate that you don't have more reviews for this or for any of your other fics. It's ridiculous! This is amazing, Ari. I can't tell you that enough. I adore this. The quotes, the moments, the final line.

You deserve heaps of praise.
