I usually don't like poems that rhyme, finding most of them don't flow well. This is not one of those. It flows really well and my favorite lines are

"Silent sentinel, ever watching,
Scarred by death and killed by time
...
Solid as this stone foundation
Unwavering as your piercing blade
You scoffed at death and laughed at fate,"
