Kirachi 2009-01-13 . chapter 1Finally I got the chance to read and review.
Loved Destiny II, great follow on from Destiny and again beautifully written.
Normally I love romance stories, I rarely read anything that isn't, so for me to love this little series says a lot about your talent :)
I like that you are not redeeming Caesar, he's still haughty and annoying and hard to be around, I can understand Gabrielle's reactiosn all to well but i also find myself understanding Caesar and his actions, pitying him a little. His whole world has been ripped apart and he can not deal with it, he's on the verge of madness I feel.
I love the introduction of Joxer and the hint of Meg too, the story of his past was wonderful to read.
I felt very sorry for Caesar wanting to end it all but Gabrielle stops him, if that will end up being good for herself is another matter, I think she feels bound to him now, bound to help him in some way.
And now they are going to Rome, or what is left of it, I don't think this will ease Caesar's mind at all, it will just torture him, looking foward to reading more! |

Elfrieda 2005-03-13 . chapter 1 I'm glad I finally got to read this excellent follow-up to Destiny I. Caesar's progress in this episode is painstaking and believable, yet he makes some very important breakthroughs in a very short time. Gabrielle's character is believable, as well - compassionate, but not a pushover. I also enjoyed the bit with Joxer and his recollections of Callisto's raids, and the tie-in with Caesar's situation. I hope to see more soon! |
LadyKate1 2005-02-14 . chapter 1Well, I finally managed to read Destiny II after all sorts of things kept me busy for days, and I have to say that it's even better than Destiny I -- which is no mean feat! First of all, you've done a great job of creating a convincing and complete alternate world. Second, you've done an equally terrific job of characterization that makes sense in this alternate world. The story held my attention from beginning to end. The section with the blacksmith was great (very impressive, vivid physical description where the collar is being removed from Caesar's neck!). I love the way you worked in Joxer and the story you gave him. (I see you've got a new one posted with Jett -- I'm really looking forward to that one!) And then you top it off with a great ending. I was extremely impressed with the way Gabrielle talks Caesar out of killing himself. It all made sense.
One minor quibble: would Caesar say something like "What would a woman know about destiny or the workings of fate?" in a world where Rome was destroyed a woman, and where two other women, Callisto and Najara, rule most of the known world? (However, I really like how Caesar suddenly gains respect for Gab once he learns that she knows something about the history of Rome!)
In conclusion: I never thought I'd enjoy an X:WP fanfic without either Xena or Ares in it. But you keep proving me wrong!
More please! |
