You have done a very brave thing by combining fiction and a tragic real event. I think that you handled it very well.You kept the characterisation that was in the manga and gave voice to the feelings and lives of those left behind.
I can see why people would want to flame you, but I think you did well.

After having lost a piece of my family's history on 9/11, I gained a new appreciation for taking each of life's moments and just living them.

The story of FAKE is the story of two New York cops who fall in love long before the events of that day. It is not inconcievable that they too should, as police officers, respond to the call for aid. It is therefore understandable, perhaps even expected that one should fall.

This story handled this event accordingly and brought the grief of that tragity into the wonderfully warm and funny world of Dee and Ryo. It is not the end of the world that Ryo died and that Dee should live on. It is, in truth, the tragic reality of that day. Lives were torn apart and families shattered.

I commend the author for this beautiful and touching work, that left me with tears in my eyes and gratitude in my heart that someone could write about this and still respect it this much.

Holy cow... You really had me thinking that JJ died. Excellent job on the keeping the readers thinking they know who it is than bam. Knock them off their seats with the last sentance. This was very emotional and very sad. I truelly enjoyed it and am glad that you posted this. Keep up the good work!

Wow. That was very good. It made me have a few tears. And there was the slight twist were it's JJ not Ryo but... it is a very good story.

That was really sad... I thought something was up when you were going out of your way not to name people (except Dee and the Chief), and when I realized that it was probably Ryo... ;_; You did a great job at the 'misleading' though by the single name sentences. A beautifully crafted piece! (Any plans to write out the story where it happens by any chance? :)

As other reviewers have said, using the destruction of the World Trade Center is callous. In fifty years, perhaps historical fiction - with original characters - can be written about it, but writing a fanfic involving it is insensitive.

If Dee had had any interest in JJ, he would have gone out with him a long time ago. He doesn't have any interest in JJ. JJ annoys him. He feels sorry for JJ after Max dies, but that's about the depth of his emotion concerning JJ.

What is your purpose in killing Ryo? To make this fic sad? Aren't there enough things in canon that already provide fodder for tragedy? To get Dee and JJ together? Why?

This awful fic is a slap in the face to anyone who experienced the tragedy that was 9-11.

I find your use of a real life national tragedy to break up a fictional (canon, I might add) couple appalling and sick. What's next, fic about the Holocaust? Maybe a fic about how Ryo's ancestors were involved in the Rape of Nanking or were Hiroshima survivors? A Vietnam War AU? Ryo and Dee get assigned to investigate Columbine? Ryo takes a vacation in the tsunami zone?

I find this fic sick and disturbing in many ways. I also find your inability to accept a canon pairing sad. Dee never loved JJ. He did love Ryo.

Okay. Normally, I don't get my panties in a knot over ships. In fact, I laugh and roll my eyes at people who get their panties in a knot over ships.

But using 9/11 to break up a CANON PAIRING that took 7 volumes to get together is a bad move. And you will eventually be flamed by rabid canon purists. Just a heads-up.

I stared at the last line for a few seconds before it clicked, and then I almost really did scream. Hate to be redundant, but it's fantastic. And awful. So effing sad. Wowness. Can no longer speak proper English.

Wow...Okay I'm speechless. I can't really find the words to discribe how much I liked this. It has a beautiful and sad poetic feel to it and you blew me away with the twist at the end. Wonderful job, wonderfully written and...wow.
