When you wrote this, you reminded me of...me. Strange, I could never see myself in anyone before. Now that I can, it feels...good. I'm not alone. Even if Shadow does not exist in this demention (eh heh... yes, I'm a geek) I can still find myself in him. This comforts me. Only difference is that very few like me and envy me, and a heck of a lot more despise me.
One thing, though...I don't think the Proffessor feared Shadow. I think, actually, Black Doom feared Shadow because of the Proffessor. You see, I think Black Doom is, in a sence, much like Voldimort in the HP searies. He fears Shadow because of the one thing he was unable to feel. Love. Shadow loved Maria and the Proffessor, and it was this feeling, and it will always be this feeling, that will turn Shadow to walk on the right path.

This is beautiful. Extremely well written, in character, and seriously something that'll emotionally effect the reader. Makes me really pity Shadow, moreso than ever before.

The fact that I don't like how many Sonic fans love him wasn't the only reason I wished Shadow really did die at the end of Sonic Adventure 2. It was also because he's a very pitiful character who deserves to finally get some rest from his existence. Alas though, he had to "mysteriously survive" after all. Rawr...

Anyway, great work. I love sad fics that can make ya think. This was amazing.

Pretty effective, if vague. However, there is a large hole in this story, and that hole is named "Maria". Shadow can't have a complete introspective without Maria figuring prominently, for she was the most important person in his life while he was aboard ARK.

Also: you don't understand Machiavelli. Nice attempt to incorporate a broader vocabulary, but you miss the usage. Machiavelli advocated leaders of nations to act with necessity as their primary guide. He didn't support evil, but he did admit that evil in the name of statecraft was sometimes necessary because the destruction of the state was a far greater evil.

Holy! You are, like, a genius! Such amazingly beautiful, dark and twisted wording that flows together so elegently! Why don't we have more writers like you? Very nice.
