lol, i so totally feel the same way. I think you captured Luffy beautifully, there is so much more to him than a lot of people see. It annoys me when my friends say, 'Luffy is stupid - that show is for kids.' they just don't get it.

Wow! You've managed to sum everything about Monkey D Luffy in such flawless perfection. Luffy is truly the greatest enigma of One Piece, how he works, why he does the things he does, how he can so simple yet complex at the same time.

Not many of my friends even know what OP is but if anyone ever came up to my face saying Luffy's an idiot I'd be tempted to drop kick them right then and there. >P Just because someone can be goofy and seem imature doesn't mean their stupid! And if he realy was such a big idiot he most likely wouldn't have convinced anyone to follow him and probably wouldn't have succeded so often. *sighs* I just wish I could read more past the Arlong arc. >_< I prefer the manga to the anime (even though I'd watch subed episodes if they were put infront of me) especialy when they have mutilated the anime so much durring dubing! XP Ugh! I want to murder whoever decided Sanji's american voice was a good idea! I know about Chopper though as well as some about Nico Robin but I can realy only follow the Shonen Jumps which haven't gotten very far. >_< The few sights that look like I could get the manga online either require money (I'm a cheep person and not fond of sending money via internet or anything like that) or is in a forgin language. >_< Well, enough of my problems. Very good one shot and I hope you can update Breath soon. ^_^ It was very good and (I don't think I mentioned this before) I love Luffy/Zoro and I think that should be the pairing. I think your right, luffy isn't stupid, he's just simple minded. and a big dreamer, who's intution is sharp, and loyalty is strong.( i have a friend almost exactley like him)

Luffy isn´t half the idiot he´s often described as! To say it with Terry Pratchett´s words: No one can be this simple without being very, very complex...

There are so many hints in the manga, that Luffy is much more intelligent than he appears - sometimes I wonder if he just acts this way, because he is secretly amused by the way the people around him react...

I believe that Luffy is by far the most complex person in the whole manga - and in my opinion it is much harder to write about Luffy than any other person on the Going Merry. I´ve tried it and I must say that I was never satisfied with my efforts - somehow, I could never describe his character without missing at least one aspect of his personality.

I haven´t read any of your other fanfictions yet, but I will certainly look out for them now, because with this fic you ´ve proven that you are someone who can actually understand Luffy - and I´m looking really forward to read a story by someone who´s grasp of the boy´s character is superior to that of most other writers.

Apart from the whole Luffy-characterization, what I found most fascinating about this fic was your use of language.
The flow of the words, the repetition of sentences, the questions and the formating - everything comes together in a way that makes me think of an impressionistic poem or a japanese haiku. It is just beautiful and I really, really enjoyed reading it.

I never thought about likening the crew of the Going Merry to a piece of classical music - that thought is really intriguing!
I wonder which piece it might be? First I thought of the festival music at the end of the first act of Mozart´s "Don Giovanni", but that isn´t really one song, but three songs played at once, forming a new song, so I suppose it doesn´t really fit.
But maybe the beginning of Beethoven´s third symphony?

Anyway, enough with my rambling, I just wanted to say, that I really enjoyed reading this fic and that I loved the way you described Luffy!

This fic was awesome! I totally agree with you. I don't think that Luffy is a moron at all and that he's too complex and simple at the same time for any one to really understand him. This story was great and I really enjoyed reading it. I like the way everything was expressed so.. beautifully. Good job! And I hope you write more on Luffy!!

Very interesting. I particularly enjoyed the part where you compared the crew to a classical song. There were other aspects I liked to -- like the stuff about the sea of fate parting and the waves of reality calming at Luffy's command. Very insightful!
